Plot Synopsis

Christina Hawthorne is the compassionate and headstrong Chief Nursing Officer who heads up a group of dedicated nurses at Richmond Trinity Hospital. When necessary, she takes on doctors and administrators who are overworked, distracted or just unable to see the human being behind the hospital chart. Recently widowed and the mother of a rebellious teenager, she struggles to balance her career with her equally important role as a single parent and finding time to take care of own emotional needs. Life gets more difficult in Season 2 when Richmond Trinity closes, and she and several other nurses and doctors are forced to adapt and endure life at James River, a failing hospital in terrible shape. Season 3 opens with Christina and Tom's wedding.
