Plot Synopsis

From writer and executive producer Tyler Perry, THE HAVES AND THE HAVE NOTS is a scripted drama set in Savannah, Georgia, that follows the complicated dynamic between the rich and powerful Cryer family and their hired help. Jim Cryer, the family patriarch, is a powerful judge whose double-life, including tawdry affairs with high-priced escorts, puts his family and political ambitions at risk. Katheryn is the ultimate matriarch portraying a loving and dutiful wife, but she is willing to do anything to protect her family's status. Their son, Wyatt, is a troubled angry jock who cares little for his own image and finds himself in and out of rehab. His sister, Amanda, a struggling law student, tries harder to live up to her parents' expectations, but unknowingly has befriended a scurrilous young woman, Candace Young. Candace is shocked to find out that her newfound friend Amanda's father is Jim Cryer, the very man who has been paying her for sex and who also employs Candace's mother, Hanna, as his family's maid. Despite having no money, Hanna has found other types of wealth through religion and virtue. She prides herself on her dutiful son, Benny, the glue who helps keep the family together, despite the fact that her estranged daughter, Candace, is a manipulative opportunist who will stop at nothing to get what she wants. When Jim learns that his mistress has befriended his daughter, he works to save his political career -- and a potential run at governor -- while Candace sees the opportunity of a lifetime and blackmails Jim, even threatening to go to the press. The tagline for this series is: "The rich get richer. The poor get even." Picking up after the cliffhanger fall finale, the Cryer family is back with even more scandals, lies and deceit as judge Jim Cryer mounts a campaign for governor despite escalating family problems and the vengeful actions of his former mistress Candace Young. After a 2.5-month break, THE HAVES AND THE HAVE NOTS returned with new episodes on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT on OWN. Candace has stopped at nothing to get what she wants, whether it be nearly tearing down a political campaign, sowing unrest within the Cryer family or even blackmailing a powerful judge. Now, it seems her primary target, Jim, has gotten the upper hand, but Candace is always up for a challenge.

THE HAVES AND THE HAVE NOTS returned for a second season on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT on OWN. Viewers last saw Jim Cryer (as he was carried away from his mansion in a revenge kidnapping perpetrated by his former mistress (and former captive) Candace Young. Meanwhile, Candace continues her personal war against the two families that want her dead. And through the storm of destruction and self-sabotage, Candace's mother and Cryer housekeeper Hanna Young serves as a beacon of light, proving that virtue and faith can be more valuable than limitless material possessions. After a three-month break, THE HAVES AND THE HAVE NOTS returned with new episodes on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT, immediately following a seven-hour marathon (2-9pm) of encore episodes. In the summer premiere, "Two Funerals," Benny plans to bail Quincy out of jail; David barely escapes the fire that burns down the Harrington's house.

The third season of THE HAVES AND THE HAVE NOTS premiered on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT on OWN, immediately following a seven-hour marathon (2-9pm) of encore episodes. Jim Cryer, his wife Katheryn and their wealthy friends, David and Veronica Harrington, are dealing with hard lessons they have sewed from past actions. Jim is rendered powerless for the first time in his life as the charges against him mount. Candace is haunted by a horrific crime that she and Jeffery have committed and will stop at nothing to cover up the secret, as they face Quincy. Meanwhile, Hanna continues to be a moral pillar for her family and co-workers. On Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT, THE HAVES AND THE HAVE NOTS returned with new episodes. In the mid-season premiere, "My Friend Maggie," Maggie visits the Harrington home and gets the surprise of her life. Leading up to this new episode, the cast of #HAHN invites viewers to celebrate three years and 107 episodes of OWN's hit drama. For the first time ever, fans can watch every episode back to back during a Binge-a-Thon from Saturday, June 18 at 10pm through Tuesday, June 21 at 9pm.

Season 4 of THE HAVES AND THE HAVE NOTS premiered on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at 9pm ET/PT on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network, immediately following a nine-hour marathon (Noon-9pm) of encore episodes. The new season heats up as Hanna, the moral conscience, is tested like never before. Hanna and her son, Benny, are stripped of everything they have once Candace's latest hustle fails miserably. In the season opener, "A Cup of Tea," Veronica is stunned after Katheryn lashes out in anger.

Season 5 picks up with no one unscathed by scandal, destruction, life-threatening moments and even death. In the season opener, "Afraid of Flames," Hanna is in mourning after a deadly shooting. Candace rejects Benny's pleas to help her. Veronica and Melissa find themselves in danger. After a two-month break, THE HAVES AND THE HAVE NOTS returned with new episodes on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at 9pm ET/PT on OWN. In this new episode, "Veronica's House," Veronica lets it be known that she is the only queen in the kingdom, and Candace reverts to her old ways. After a two-month break, THE HAVES AND THE HAVE NOTS returned with new episodes on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 9pm ET/PT on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network. Season 5 continues with no one unscathed by scandal, destruction, life-threatening moments, and even death. In the season opener, "Speak Through It," Katheryn is mixing business with pleasure. Who says three is a crowd?

Season 6 of THE HAVES AND THE HAVE NOTS premiered on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at 9pm ET/PT on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network. In the season opener, "A Wicked Web," details about Hanna's past are unraveled. Officer Justin finally gets Jeffery to himself. Candace and Charles have a very special dinner.

The seventh season of THE HAVES AND THE HAVE NOTS premiered on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at 9pm ET/PT on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network. The new season brings in even more havoc than ever with revenge, heartbreak, betrayal, death and destruction touching the lives of every character. In the season opener, "Are You Happy?," Candace questions her motives after Charles disappoints her. After a 5-month break, THE HAVES AND THE HAVE NOTS returned for its mid-season premiere on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 from 8-10pm ET/PT, as ONW: Oprah Winfrey Network debuted back-to-back new episodes: "Power of Attorney" (Hanna decides to stand her ground and get the answers she needs) and "One Way or Another" (Vinny is determined to get Mama Rose (Rachel Winfree) out of jail one way or another).

In the season opener, "The Long Game," a shy fox tries to set David up, but he is smarter and faster. THE HAVES AND THE HAVE NOTS returned with new Season 8 episodes on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at 8pm ET/PT on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network. In the summer premiere, "A Game of Chess," Hanna proves she is just as strong as the rich and powerful.
