Plot Synopsis

HATE THY NEIGHBOR is a one-hour series that follows stand-up comedian Jamali Maddix, as he goes on a tour to confront groups spreading hate across the world, meeting people who dedicate their lives to hate, and trying to learn about racism. In the series opener, "America's Far White," Jamali travels to meet members of the National Socialist Movement, the largest neo-Nazi group in America, who openly idolize Adolf Hitler and endorse all things White Power. HATE THY NEIGHBOR was originally scheduled to debut on Monday, January 9, 2017 at 10pm, but at the last minute Viceland delayed the series premiere by two weeks, and showed a encore episode of BONG APPETIT in its place. Season 2 of HATE THY NEIGHBOR premiered on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at 10pm ET/PT on Viceland. This season, Maddix focuses exclusively on America. In a country rocked by political change and social turbulence, where the role of authority, identity, nationalism and free speech are constantly being fought over and debated, Maddix spends time with some of America's most controversial figures, hostile movements and extremist groups in an attempt to understand the roots of the deepening divisions and anger in our country. His journeys are, once again, punctuated by his often-hilarious observations on the experience shot in the relative safety of a London comedy club. In the season opener, "Love and Hate in the Deep South," Maddix spends time with hate preacher Ruben Israel and his fundamentalist disciples as they attempt to disrupt the New Orleans Southern Decadence festival.

On Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at 10pm ET/PT, Viceland premiered "Sovereign Citizens," the Season 2 finale of HATE THY NEIGHBOR. Jamali finds and follows those who refuse to recognize the U.S. government, its laws and its currency, gaining themselves the FBI classification of domestic terrorists.
