Plot Synopsis

GREAT WILD NORTH is a one-hour reality series that follows winter trappers in the frozen wilderness that borders Alaska and the Yukon, as they risk their lives in temperatures that reach 40 below, where skin freezes, snowmobiles break down, daylight fades fast, thin ice looms and predators are a constant threat. Centuries ago, trapping and fur trading played a vital role in the expansion of North America's western frontier. Today, these fearless men and women are trying to uphold that legacy, living on the land and off the grid. At peace in the great outdoors, they trap during the legally sanctioned season which, in Alaska and the Yukon, runs just four months in the dead of winter. Deep in the bush, the pressure is on to get iron in the ground and catch fur. They must also navigate the inhospitable terrain on the trap line, which features deadly half-frozen rivers, brutal wind storms, and wolf packs. Miles from the nearest town, help is never close by. The trappers are: 64-year-old Cor Guimond, who is starting to feel his age and is questioning if he still has what it takes to live the rough life of a trapper and has asked for a hand from buddy Andrew Robinson; Guy Couture, who was born and raised in the bush and whose biggest fear is not being able to afford to trap and having to get a job in Dawson City; Logan Donovan, who has brought along his outfitter friend Brad for back up and support as he seizes the opportunity to work someone else's trapline on Tombstone Mountain; Megan Melanson, a natural born trapper, who has invested everything in a remote trapline, along with her husband Brian and daughter Tasin; and Mike Willard, a brilliant trapping strategist, who has enlisted experts Mark and Dave to help maximize his profits and push him to his limits. On Thursday, October 22, 2015 at 10pm ET/PT, History aired the U.S. premiere of this series, which originally debuted in Canada with the title KLONDIKE TRAPPERS.
