Plot Synopsis

In each one-hour episode of THE GREAT CHRISTMAS LIGHT FIGHT, four families from across America decorate their homes for Christmas, as they compete against each other for the $50,000 prize awarded by judges: Michael Moloney and Sabrina Soto in Seasons 1 & 2 and Carter Oosterhouse and Taniya Nayak in Season 3-8. These families were chosen through an extensive nationwide search, based on their previous elaborate Christmas light displays, incredible choreography and over-the-top designs. Now, in this competition, they are given just 21 days to transform their homes for the holidays, trying to outdo the other families and their own previous displays.

On the night of the series premiere, ABC aired a single episode featuring these families: Blounts (Laguna Hills, CA); Holts (Chesapeake, VA); Goffs (Canon, GA); and Lynches (Whitestone, NY). On subsequent Mondays, ABC aired back-to-back episodes, with these families on December 16: Simmons (Cathedral City, CA); Rhodes (Cedar Park, TX); Smalls (Orange, CT); Tittigers (Stockbridge, GA); Baughmans (Prosper, TX); Plauches (Pass Christian, MS); Larsens (Elburn, IL); and Yangellos (Pennsville, NJ). And these families on December 23: Hyatts (Ft. Lauderdale, FL); Downs (Norman, OK); Satterwhites (Mechanicsville, VA); Paradowskis (Decatur, GA); Gays (Lagrangeville, NY); Macrinas (West Reading, PA); Kowalczyks (Tinley Park, IL); and Mizes (San Rafael, CA).

On Monday, December 8, 2014 from 8-10pm ET/PT, ABC premiered back-to-back episodes of the six-episode second season of THE GREAT CHRISTMAS LIGHT FIGHT, with Michael Moloney & Sabrina Soto both returning as judges. The night's first episode featured: the Weaver family's 58' castle in their Winter Wonderland replete with hand-painted Disney cutouts in Rohnert Park, California; the Barnard family's live animal Nativity with 2 million lights sprawling across 8 acres in Lebanon, Tennessee; the Bagwell family's impeccably synchronized musical masterpiece in Springfield, Missouri; a talking house at the home of the Belcher family in Rowlett, Texas, who make a high-tech house party with projected images that make their house seem to come alive. Subsequent episodes of Season 2 highlighted these families: Daigles (Paincourtville, LA); Loyas (El Paso, TX); Tyler Horrocks and Joe Conway (Coventry, RI); Apruzzis (Old Bridge, NJ); Lashbrooks (Owensboro, KY); BetGeorges (Newark, CA); Johnsons (San Antonio, TX); Alexanders (Fresno, CA); Liz Simmons (Dallas, TX); Ludys (Columbus, GA); Hufftys (Jacksonville, FL); Taylors (Vallejo, CA).

Season 3 of THE GREAT CHRISTMAS LIGHT FIGHT premiered on Monday, December 7, 2015 from 8-10pm ET/PT, as ABC showed back-to-back new episodes. The new season features new judges Carter Oosterhouse and Taniya Nayak and a special episode where neighborhoods compete. In Season 3, families and neighborhoods from across America decorate their homes to the extreme for Christmas with a total of $300,000 in prizes ($50,000 per episode) up for grabs. Season 3 featured these families: \the Atkins (Ocala, FL); the Pelletiers (Greenville, SC); Kuhns (St. George, UT); Cadgers (Meridian, ID); Phipps (Livermore, CA); Bartletts (Ellicott City, MD); Drelicks (Harleysville, PA); Hunts (Ocala, FL); and families from Pleasanton, CA, Hillsboro, TN, St. George, UT and Duluth, MN. Plus, the season featured these neighborhoods: Jeter Bend in Celebration, FL; Waikele Christmas Lights in Waipahu, HI; and Christmas on Comstock in Gilbert, AZ.

The fourth season of THE GREAT CHRISTMAS LIGHT FIGHT premiered on Monday, December 5, 2016 from 8-10pm ET/PT on ABC, with Carter Oosterhouse and Taniya Nayak returning for a new season. The first two episodes feature families from across America decorating their homes to the extreme for Christmas in hopes that they will win $50,000 and the coveted Light Fight trophy ($300,000 total in prizes for the season).

On Monday, December 4, 2017 from 8-10pm ET/PT, ABC premiered the fifth season of THE GREAT CHRISTMAS LIGHT FIGHT, showing back-to-back new episodes, with returning celebrity judges Carter Oosterhouse and Taniya Nayak. Season 5 showcases the wildest and most spectacular Christmas displays in America. In each episode, four families from all around the country with over-the-top displays compete to win the coveted Light Fight trophy and a $50,000 prize, with a total of $300,000 given away for the season.Along with the incredible displays, this season also features the first-ever neighbors vs. neighbors episode, where side-by-side neighbors team up to compete against other side-by-side neighbors in a doubly epic battle of the bulbs! The network aired back-to-back episodes for three consecutive weeks, starting December 4 through December 18.

On Monday, November 26, 2018 from 8-10pm ET/PT, ABC premiered the sixth season of THE GREAT CHRISTMAS LIGHT FIGHT, with lifestyle expert Carter Oosterhouse and interior designer Taniya Nayak returning as celebrity judges. In each one-hour episode, four families from all around the country decorate their homes to the extreme in the hopes of winning the coveted Light Fight trophy and a $50,000 prize, with a total of $300,000 given away for the season. ABC debuts back-to-back new episodes each week (Nov 26, Dec 3, Dec 17).

THE GREAT CHRISTMAS LIGHT FIGHT returned for its seventh season on Monday, December 2, 2019 from 8-10pm ET/PT on ABC, with lifestyle expert Carter Oosterhouse and famed interior designer Taniya Nayak. In each one-hour episode, four families with dazzling household displays will compete to win $50,000 and the coveted Light Fight trophy. ABC debuts back-to-back episodes on three consecutive Mondays, beginning December 2 and ending December 16.

Season 8 of THE GREAT CHRISTMAS LIGHT FIGHT premiered on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 from 8-10pm ET/PT on ABC, with returning celebrity judges: lifestyle expert Carter Oosterhouse and famed interior designer Taniya Nayak. All isn't always calm, but all is definitely bright as Season 8 of the Christmas classic takes viewers across the country to the most elaborate and awe-inspiring holiday displays in the nation. This holiday season, we will once again see four fantastic families face off in each one-hour episode and compete to win $50,000 should they "sleigh" the competition. Taking Christmas decorating to another level, the Heavyweights special will return for its third year featuring a first-ever parade of one-of-a-kind sparkling floats and a mile-long drive-through with over a million synchronized lights, to name a few, that viewers will never forget. The two-hour debut featured back-to-back new episodes, featuring these families: Reynolds family(La Verkin, UT), Fiore family (Wilmington, MA), Trevisano family (St. Louis, MO), and Barbieri family (Deer Park, NY) at 8pm; and Sumner family (Jenks, OK), DeBolt family (Boise, ID), Stott Family Fontana, CA), and Markowski family Brownsville, TN) at 9pm.

THE GREAT CHRISTMAS LIGHT FIGHT returned for its ninth season on Sunday, November 28, 2021 from 9-11pm ET/PT on ABC, with back-to-back episodes. With the help of celebrity judges and Christmas decor aficionados -- lifestyle expert Carter Oosterhouse and famed interior designer Taniya Nayak -- the new season showcases America's brightest houses. Each merry and bright episode takes viewers across the country to the most elaborate and awe-inspiring holiday displays in the nation as viewers once again see four fantastic families face off in each one-hour episode and compete to win $50,000. Additional two-hour presentations debuted on Monday, November 29 and Thursday, December 2.

The tenth season of THE GREAT CHRISTMAS LIGHT FIGHT premiered on Monday, November 28, 2022 from 8-10pm ET/PT on ABC, with back-to-back episodes airing as a two-hour event. Lifestyle expert Carter Oosterhouse and famed interior designer Taniya Nayak return to showcase America's brightest houses and best Christmas decor. Who will win the $50,000 prize and coveted Light Fight Trophy in each episode? ABC premiered two additional two-hour episodes on Monday, December 5 and Monday, December 12.

Season 11 of THE GREAT CHRISTMAS LIGHT FIGHT debuted on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at 10pm ET/PT on ABC. In each one-hour episode, four families compete for the $50,000 grand prize and coveted Light Fight trophy, which are again awarded by one of the judges: Carter Oosterhouse or Taniya Nayak. The season opener, "All Stars 2," takes a look back at some of the most iconic light displays from previous seasons. Six more episodes debut later on: Sunday, December 3 at 10pm; Sunday, December 10 at 10pm; Tuesday, December 12 at 9pm and 10pm; and Tuesday, December 19 at 9pm and 10pm.

On Tuesday, December 19, 2023 from 9-11pm ET/PT, ABC premiered back-to-back new episodes to close out the eleventh season of THE GREAT CHRISTMAS LIGHT FIGHT:

9pm: All is merry and bright as judge Taniya Nayak sets out to crown a new winner. Traveling to Dyer, Indiana, the Manfre family creates a bellissimo light show merging their Italian culture and their love for the holidays with over 55,000 pixel lights. In Topsfield, Massachusetts, the Swenson family's illuminated pumpkin patch is ready to squash the competition with their dazzling light display and a surprise reveal that will leave viewers saying "oh my gourd!" The Michael family display is where Christmas past meets the present in a collection curated over 24 years, with 600 blowmolds and interactive elements in Hatfield, Pennsylvania. The Smith Family puts Freeman, Virginia, on the map with their country Christmas walkthrough light display complete with over 165 inflatables across four acres of manicured gardens.

10pm: On the season finale, judge Carter Oosterhouse sees the Rowe family as they transform their home into a mom-and-pop traditional Christmas display decked with multigenerational DIY decor in Madison, Mississippi. The Spacy family puts a haunting spin on their scary Christmas house paying homage to a classic Christmas film in Glendale, Arizona. In Marengo, Illinois, the Hanson family creates a farm-tastic Christmas display revamping their barn into an impressive high-tech light show complete with millions of pixels and eight-foot flames. The Tran family brings their light fascination to life at their tasteful holiday display expertly designed including a "naughty or nice" wishing well in San Jose, California.

THE GREAT CHRISTMAS LIGHT FIGHT will return for its 12th season next year.
