Plot Synopsis
Inspired by the real-life summer trips by series creator Alex Hirsch and his twin sister while visiting relatives in the Pacific Northwest as kids, GRAVITY FALLS is an animated series that follows twin brother and sister Dipper and Mabel Pines when they spend the summer with their great uncle in the mysterious town of Gravity Falls, Oregon. Upon their arrival, Dipper and Mabel's huckster great uncle, also known as Grunkle Stan, enlists the siblings' help in running The Mystery Shack, which they quickly discovery as a hoax, but they sense something strange about their new town. And when Dipper inadvertently uncovers a cryptic journal, they investigate the small isolated town's strange and wondrous secrets, like the legendary sea monster that exists at the bottom of the local lake. Smart and conventional, Dipper can't wait to leave adolescence in the rear view mirror and he's wise beyond his years, but sometimes his overzealousness leaves others questioning his credibility. Mabel is a buoyant and energetic optimist who skips through life with a braces-filled smile and an assortment of extremely colorful knit sweaters, and her outgoing personality and fearless curiosity come in handy when Dipper needs help solving a mystery. Their Grunkle Stan, whose insatiable appetite for money drives him to spin every opportunity into a financial advantage, has finally managed to set up shop in a town with enough unsuspecting customers to sell his worthless knickknacks. Additional characters are: Wendy, the mellow and cool teen who works at The Mystery Shack part time; Soos, a portly and lovable employee whose desire to be where the action is makes him an excellent resource for the twins when they need a ride about town; 'Lil Gideon, the self-proclaimed television psychic whose real mission is to take down his competition, The Mystery Shack; and Sheriff Blubs and Deputy Durland, the lazy and sarcastic local law enforcement team who deem every case unsolvable so that they can go to lunch instead. Disney aired a special preview episode on Friday, June 15, 2012 at 9:55pm ET, immediately after LET IT SHINE, and two weeks later showed the same episode as the official series premiere on Friday, June 29, 2012 at 9pm ET/PT. The second season of GRAVITY FALLS, starring Jason Ritter and Kristen Schaal, premiered Friday, August 1, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT on Disney Channel and Monday, August 4, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT on Disney XD. Thereafter, new episodes debuted on Disney XD with subsequent airings on Disney Channel. The new season finds Dipper and Mabel digging deeper than ever to learn the secret history of Journal #3's unknown author, while Stan works on a secret project that could change everything in the basement of the Mystery Shack. Scarier creatures, weirder magic and new hilarious characters, including vengeful villains and love interests, will be introduced. Upcoming guest stars include Mark Hamill and Patton Oswalt. Throughout the season, unique puzzle pieces with secret decodeable messages will be revealed at the end of each episode's credits. The season premiere episode, titled "Scary-oke," finds the Pines family resolving to get back to normal after the Lil' Gideon incident. They throw a "Mystery Shack is Back" party, but some unwelcome guests crash it. In the second episode, "Into the Bunker," premiering exclusively on Disney XD, Dipper's secret journal pages lead him and the gang to the author's hidden bunker where they find themselves face-to-face with a mysterious figure from Gravity Falls' lore.
