Plot Synopsis
Written, produced and hosted by Alton Brown, each half-hour episode of GOOD EATS: THE RETURN takes an informative and comedic deep dive into a specific ingredient or dish through Alton's eyes. Punctuated by pop culture, tried-and-true recipes and the show's unique cast of characters, the series is about food in its finest and funniest form. Themes include the ultimate sourdough recipe, shakshuka, steak tartare, and more. GOOD EATS originally premiered on Food Network in 1999 and ran for thirteen years. Combining food science, pop culture, skit humor, innovative cooking, and the occasional belching puppet, GOOD EATS has millions of fans and garnered a coveted Peabody Award for broadcast excellence in 2007. GOOD EATS: THE RETURN is sometimes called the 15th season of GOOD EATS. "I took a break to work on live tour shows and a game show (CUTTHROAT KITCHEN) and a book that I needed to get out of my system. Now it's time to get back to work and that work is GOOD EATS: THE RETURN," said Alton.
In the series opener, "American Classics X: Chicken Parm," Alton makes the argument that Italian food as we know it was actually invented in America and that Chicken Parmesan is the dish where it all began -- and yet, an Italian canned tomato makes it all possible. The episode immediately following, "Every Grain Old Is New Again," explores ancient American grains amaranth, chia and quinoa. They are making a comeback due to their versatility and nutritional content, and Alton shows how to make the most of these very old kitchen newcomers. (Note that Season 1 of GOOD EATS: THE RETURN is listed as Season 15 of GOOD EATS on the discovery+ app.)
On Sunday, December 15, 2019 from 11pm-Midnight, Food Network premiered back-to-back GOOD EATS holiday specials: "Holiday Spirit(s)" (11pm): If your family is anything like Alton's, the trick is to stick with these low-alcohol beverages, where the flavors will knock you out -- but the proof won't; and "Whole Latke Love" (11:30pm): Alton delves into the history of and techniques for this classic Hanukkah dish which, believe it or not, was originally made with a famous Italian cheese.

"Fry Bread, Fry": Not all great breads come from the oven. Alton takes on two very different fried breads, each with a twist.
