Plot Synopsis

This one-hour reality series follows the mother-daughter duo Karen E Laine (formerly Jensen) and Mina Starsiak, owners of the Indianapolis-based company Two Chicks and a Hammer, as they revitalize their hometown by buying rundown homes and transforming them into urban remodels. With Mina's real estate know-how and Karen's legal background, these ladies get the property they want and enlist their family's help with demo and construction. Since founding their company in 2010, this duo has rehabbed approximately 20 homes. Now, in this series, each one-hour episode features Mina and Karen rehabbing a different home. On Monday, May 4, 2015 at 11pm ET/PT, HGTV premiered the pilot of this series with the title TWO CHICKS AND A HAMMER. Nearly 11 months later, the series officially debuted on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at 11pm ET/PT on HGTV with a new name: GOOD BONES.

Season 2 of GOOD BONES premiered on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 10pm ET/PT on HGTV. New this season, Karen and Mina take on bigger risks and even tougher renovations - from repairing haphazard foundations to reconstructing homes from the ground up. Each episode will feature the pair as they overcome numerous construction nightmares, including reconfiguring outdated home layouts to suit modern families and adding major amenities such as new kitchens, large master suites and new outdoor areas perfect for entertaining. In the season opener, "Decaying Duplex Gets A Transformation," Mina and Karen snag a four-bedroom, two-bathroom duplex for only $4,000. But with one of the worst foundations they've ever seen combined with unsafe floor joists on the second floor, Mina expects to spend upwards of $200,000 on the renovation. When Tad demos the chimney and puts a hole in the roof, the women grow more concerned about their budget. They hope that their attention to detail in the beautifully finished single-family home will pay off.

The third season of GOOD BONES premiered on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 10pm ET/PT on HGTV, and moves to its regular timeslot -- Tuesdays at 9pm -- the following week. For this new season, Mina and Karen bring their design and renovation expertise to familiar areas of the city, including Fountain Square and Bates-Hendrix, and out to new neighborhoods near downtown. Alongside their construction crew, the pair take down walls, create open floor plans, add modern finishes and strike up the curb appeal to turn dilapidated properties into stunning family remodels. In the season opener, "Smelly Shotgun House to Chic Downtown Home," Mina and Karen take on an old shotgun-style home near downtown Indianapolis, and even though they've been renovating shotgun homes for years, this house is quite the stinker -- literally. Demo day becomes a test of bad smells they will never forget, and Mina's brother, Tad, learns the basics of framing a house and installing decorative wall tiles. Hoping to sell the home to their friend who owns a wedding dress studio, Mina and Karen tailor the decor to match her taste and create a DIY project from wedding dress material. But when they find out their renovated house isn't up to code, there's a chance they won't be able to finish it on time and on budget.

Season 4 of GOOD BONES premiered on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at 9pm ET/PT on HGTV. In the season opener, "A Stately House on Sanders,"Mina and Karen are taking on a sprawling, 2,800-square-foot home with four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a bonus space upstairs. While the three-story home is structurally sound, it needs a lot of work to make it ready to sell, and Mina and Karen have a whopping $275,000 renovation budget. The home has beautiful woodwork, paneling and a majestic staircase, but tensions flare as the women have differing opinions on how to approach its design and style.

The fifth season of GOOD BONES premiered on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at 8pm ET/PT on HGTV. Season 5 continues to follow Mina, a real estate agent and soon-to-be mom of two, and Karen, a lawyer, as they buy the most dilapidated properties in their favorite Indianapolis neighborhoods, demo them down to the studs and completely transform them into gorgeous, functional family homes. This season also spotlights very personal moments for both mother and daughter -- Mina shares her emotional IVF journey that results in her second pregnancy while Karen announces she is retiring from the day-to-day operations of the family renovation business.

GOOD BONES returned for its sixth season on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at 9pm ET/PT on HGTV. Season 6 follows Mina, a real estate agent and mom of two, and Karen, a lawyer, as they expand their business to buy more dilapidated properties in their hometown of Indianapolis, demo them down to the studs and renovate them into dazzling family homes. This season also offers new glimpses into the duo's personal lives. Mina adjusts to caring for two young children while simultaneously taking the reins of the family business and working to make an even bigger impact on more local neighborhoods. Meanwhile, Karen's semi-retirement means she can focus on more of the landscaping, renovation and do-it-yourself projects that she loves the most. In the season opener, "Scary to Chic in Old Southside," with her son in tow and another baby on the way, Mina returns to Old Southside where she and Karen aim to turn a creepy, insect-infested lot into a chic oasis for a new family. Along the way, they make a sentimental connection to the home's past owner.

Season 7 of GOOD BONES debuted on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at 9pm ET/PT on HGTV, with Mina Starsiak Hawk and Karen E Laine returning for a 14-episode season. Mina, a real estate agent and mom of two, and Karen, a lawyer, will continue to buy more dilapidated properties in their hometown of Indianapolis, demo them down to the studs and renovate them into dazzling family homes. This season, Mina will focus on even more ways to expand their home reno business. With the real estate market in flux, Mina and Karen will branch out into new neighborhoods and take on client renovation projects. And, for the first time ever, the pair will tackle a commercial renovation for a fellow female entrepreneur who is moving her bridal shop to a bigger space.

On Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at 9pm ET/PT, HGTV premiered the eighth season of GOOD BONES. This season, Mina will help both of her younger siblings, sister Kelsy and brother Tad reimagine their new homes, while the rest of the Good Bones crew take on a slew of new renovation projects. The season opener, Income Property Issues," follows Mina, Karen and the team as they revamp a junk-filled duplex, complete with an attic space and a basement located in the Bates-Hendricks neighborhood. To turn a profit, Mina will transform the attic into a rental income unit for the new homeowners by adding bedrooms, a kitchen and living room, all with a modern touch.
