Plot Synopsis
GAME CHANGERS is a one-hour documentary series that explores the little-known backstories (and back-stabbing) behind the creation of wildly popular games like Monopoly and Call of Duty. Episodes include:
"Nintendo's Wild Ride" (Wednesday, November 5, 2024 at 9pm): From an obscure Japanese card manufacturer to the most recognizable gaming company worldwide, Nintendo's wild ride from family business to global gaming titan has lasted over 100 years, changing the game and the world.
"Madden Scores Big" (Wednesday, November 5, 2024 at 10pm): Electronic Arts collaborates with coach and sports commentator John Madden to create what would become a great football video game.
"Atari Takes the Lead" (Wednesday, November 12, 2024 at 9pm): Atari's launch of Pong in 1972 and the follow-up smash hit Pac-Man in 1980 created a whole new gaming industry -- until it all came crashing down.
"When Duty Calls" (Wednesday, November 19, 2024 at 9pm): The inception of Activision's mega-hit Call of Duty began in Hollywood, thanks to director Steven Spielberg -- but its success was due to the scrappy brilliance of a Tulsa, OK, video game company and a group of disgruntled gamers named the Gang of Four.
"SEGA/Sonic the Hedgehog": SEGA enters a do or die period with the launch of their 6-bit Genesis and levels the playing field against a certain Italian Plumber with a brand-new mascot of their own.
"Blizzard/World of Warcraft": This quest into the vast realms leads us to the wise game developing warriors who faced insurmountable obstacles to collect the gold. It's a journey that starts with a small loan from grandma and continues into the annals of game history.
"Monopoly/Scrabble": The most iconic board games ever made all have unusual histories of origin and ownership. While they have entertained countless households, families and fans for decades, the surprising tales of how they were created range from innocent, quirky to downright thievery.
"Minecraft": This billion-dollar empire was built one block at a time, by setting players free in a colorful pixelated sandbox to create their own worlds through mining, surviving, creating...and dealing with the occasional zombie.
