Plot Synopsis

GABRIELLE UNION: MY JOURNEY TO 50 is a two-part documentary that follows Gabrielle Union, as she turns 50 and embarks on an adventure through Africa, where she gets in touch with her roots and experiences the birthday bash of a lifetime with her loved ones. On this journey -- from the island of Zanzibar to the coast of Ghana to the parks of Namibia and the nightlife of South Africa -- she'll walk the path of her heritage, gain wisdom and shed what no longer works for her while welcoming others to relearn, rediscover and reconnect as we collectively celebrate our most authentic selves. Her 50th-birthday journey starts in Ghana, where her family receives Akan names at a sacred ceremony and visits a historical river to retrace the path of their enslaved ancestors. Then, the family bonds on a safari in Namibia, and Gabrielle visits Nelson Mandela's home and a Black-owned winery before a special guest lights up her Zanzibar birthday bash. In addition to husband Dwyane Wade, Gabrielle is joined by Kaavia James Union Wade, Theresa Union (Gabrielle's mother), Katie Union (Gabrielle's Aunt), Chelsea Union (Gabrielle's Niece), Tracy Union (Gabrielle's Sister), Adair Curtis, Essence Atkins, Angie Martinez and more.
