Plot Synopsis

A FOOTBALL LIFE examines the iconic individuals and subjects that have had an undeniable and profound impact on the history of the National Football League, offering an inside look into their untold stories. Season 2 features: Tim Tebow, the immensely popular backup quarterback for the New York Jets; Ray Lewis, the Baltimore Ravens linebacker who was the first player in NFL history to wear a wireless microphone in every game for an entire season; Super Bowl-winning head coaches Tom Coughlin & Jimmy Johnson; late Tennessee Titans quarterback Steve McNair; Hall-of-Fame running backs Marcus Allen & Barry Sanders; former owner of the San Francisco 49ers Eddie DeBartolo, Jr.; Pro-Bowl linebacker Chris Spielman; the Los Angeles Rams' Fearsome Foursome; a 40th anniversary celebration of "The Immaculate Reception"; and the untold legacy of the 1995 Cleveland Browns. This series returned for its third season on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at 9pm ET/6pm PT on NFL Network, just two days before the opening kickoff of the 2013 NFL season. Season 3 featured: LaDainian Tomlinson; Don Shula; Darrelle Revis; Derrick Thomas; Steve Sabol; Matt Millen; Michael Strahan; Pat Summerall; Warren Sapp; and Jerry Rice, Cris Carter, Randall Cunningham and the 1993 Houston Oilers sometime after October 29. On Friday, September 12, 2014 at 9pm ET/6pm PT, NFL Network aired the Season 4 premiere of A FOOTBALL LIFE with narrator Josh Charles returning for his fourth season. The season opener chronicles the life of Mean Joe Greene, the Hall of Fame defensive tackle for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and subsequent episodes in Season 4 profile these subjects: late Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor; Hall-of-Fame quarterback Warren Moon; current Chicago Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall; two-time Super Bowl champion Terrell Davis; Hall-of-Fame running back Eric Dickerson; Hall-of-Fame quarterback Roger Staubach; former Pro Bowl quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Doug Flutie; and Hall-of-Fame Chicago Bears teammates Dick Butkus & Gale Sayers. A FOOTBALL LIFE returned for its 13-episode fifth season on Friday, September 18, 2015 at 9pm ET/6pm PT on NFL Network, with a profile of former All-Pro running back for the Kansas City Chiefs, 'The Nigerian Nightmare' Christian Okoye. Season 5 also profiles Dexter Manley, Jerome Bettis, Terrell Owens, Dick Vermeil, Mike Singletary, Charles Haley, and more. The 13-episode seventh season of A FOOTBALL LIFE premiered on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 9pm ET/6pm PT on NFL Network. The season opener chronicles the career of Miami Dolphins Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino. Subsequent episodes feature individuals such as John Madden, Jerry Jones, Joe Gibbs, Larry Fitzgerald, Emmitt Smith, John Randle and more. The finale of the season will mark the 100th episode in the series' history.

Season 8 of A FOOTBALL LIFE premiered on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 8pm ET/5pm PT on NFL Network. The season opener profiles former Pro Bowl quarterback and No. 1 overall pick Carson Palmer, and features sitdown interviews with Palmer, former teammates Chad Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald and Jon Kitna, former coaches Pete Carroll, Marvin Lewis, Hue Jackson and Bruce Arians, family members and more. Subsequent episodes in the 11-episode eighth season feature: Lawrence Taylor (Sep 21); Tony Romo (Sep 28); Willie McGinist (Oct. 5); Brian Dawkins (Oct. 12); and more.
