Plot Synopsis

THE FLASH is a one-hour drama series that chronicles the origin story of Barry Allen (aka The Flash), a Central City assistant police forensics investigator, and other meta-humans, vigilantes and villains in his world. After Central City's Scientific and Technological Advanced Research (S.T.A.R.) Labs Particle Accelerator causes a freak storm, Allen is struck by lightning and falls into a coma. Months later he awakens with the power of super speed, granting him the ability to move through the city like an unseen guardian angel. Though initially excited by his newfound powers, Allen is shocked to discover he is not the only meta-human created in the wake of the accelerator explosion -- and not everyone is using their new powers for good. Barry partners with S.T.A.R. Labs and dedicates his life to protect the innocent. For now, only a few close friends and associates know that Barry is literally the fastest man alive, but it won't be long before the world learns about his true identity. His associates at the police department include: Det. West, an honest blue-collar cop, who is a surrogate father to Allen; Det. Eddie Thawne, a recent transfer to the Central City Police Department, whose past is a mystery -- and who may harbor his own dark secret; and Capt. David Singh. Harrison Wells, a rock star in the world of physics and the mind and money behind the S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator, charts his path to redemption when he discovers that his failed experiment had the unintended consequence of creating the world's fastest man. At S.T.A.R. Labs, Allen collaborates with: Caitlin Snow, a highly intelligent bioengineering expert, who lost her fiance during an explosion at the labs; and Cisco Ramon, a mechanical engineering genius, who is the youngest member of the scientific team. Plus, Allen gets help from the fast-talking Iris West, his quick-witted best friend, who is also the daughter of Det. West. Barry's mission as The Flash was sidetracked when he came face to face with the Man in Yellow. Barry wasn't fast enough to catch him, but in a shocking revelation the team figured out their beloved mentor, Harrison Wells, was actually the Man in Yellow, and the man responsible for killing Barry's mother. Wells revealed his true identity as Eobard Thawne, a man from the future, coincidentally descended from Eddie Thawne, who traveled back in time to kill Barry. As The Flash appeared about to lose this final battle with his nemesis -- and with the struggle between the two opening a rip in space and time, a Singularity, that threatened to destroy them all -- Eddie Thawne sacrificed his own life in order to save Central City and to change the course of history.

Season 2 of THE FLASH premiered on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at 8pm ET/PT on The CW. In Season 2, thanks to Eddie Thawne's sacrifice, Eodard Thawne has been defeated. But Barry was unable to prove that Thawne killed his mother, so his father remains in prison for a crime he didn't commit. And a new ally, Jay Garrick, arrives with news that the Singularity opened portals to an alternate Earth, with a terrifying new enemy named Zoom now on the horizon. Plus, Patty Spivot, a police officer obsessed with metahumans, partners with Det. Joe West this season but has no idea that her new crush is The Flash. The season opener, "The Man Who Saved Central City," picks up months after the Singularity attacked Central City, Barry is still struggling to forgive himself for Eddie's death. Concerned about putting his friends in danger, Barry has pushed everyone away and has chosen to protect the city on his own. When a meta-human named Atom Smasher attacks the city, Iris tells Barry that he needs to let his friends help him protect the citizens of Central City. Meanwhile, Cisco helps Joe with his Meta Task Force.

The CW premiered the third season of THE FLASH on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 8pm ET/PT. In the season opener, "Flashpoint," a story by Greg Berlanti & Andrew Kreisberg, Barry is living his dream life -- his parents are alive, he's asked Iris West on a date and he can finally be a normal guy as Central City has another speedster, Kid Flash, running around saving the city. When Barry starts forgetting parts of his old life, the Reverse Flash taunts his nemesis and tells him that there will be serious repercussions for Barry and the ones he loves if he continues to live in this alternate universe. In addition to losing his memories, his powers will also start to fade. When disaster strikes, Barry must decide if he wants to continue to live in this world as Barry Allen or return to his universe as The Flash.

Season 4 of THE FLASH premiered on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 8pm ET/PT on The CW. In the season opener, "The Flash Reborn," with Barry in the speed force, Iris, Kid Flash, Joe and Vibe have taken over protecting Central City. However, when a powerful armored villain threatens to level the city if The Flash doesn't appear, Cisco makes a risky decision to break Barry out of the speed force. However, the Barry that comes out isn't the same Barry that went in.

The fifth season of THE FLASH premiered on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at 8pm ET/PT on The CW. In the season opener, "Nora," after an unexpected guest from the future, Nora West-Allen, appears at their home, Barry and Iris must figure out how to get her back to the future without disrupting the timeline -- even more than she already has. Team Flash must work together to send Nora back, while simultaneously fighting off another villainous meta.

THE FLASH returned for its sixth season on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at 8pm ET/PT on The CW. In the season opener, "Into the Void," while Barry and Iris deal with the heartbreaking loss of their daughter, Nora, the team faces their greatest threat yet -- one that threatens to destroy all of Central City. Meanwhile, Killer Frost has a brush with death that results in an unexpected new dynamic that will change her relationship with Caitlin forever. Gregory Smith directed the episode written by Eric Wallace & Kelly Wheeler. On Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at 8pm ET/PT, The CW debuted "Marathon," the winter premiere of THE FLASH. After The Citizen prints an explosive story, Iris's life is threatened. Refusing to hide from those that are attacking her, Iris sets out to expose a dangerous organization. Meanwhile, Barry must face the consequences of the Crisis and fulfill Oliver Queen's wish for him.

Season 7 of THE FLASH debuted on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at 8pm ET/PT on The CW. At the end of last season, the new Mirror Master was victorious and still-at-large in Central City. Now, The Flash must regroup in order to stop her and find a way to make contact with his missing wife, Iris West-Allen. With help from the rest of Team Flash, which includes superheroes Caitlin Snow, Cisco Ramon, and Nash Wells, as well as the Flash's adoptive father Joe West, Meta-Attorney Cecile Horton, tough cub reporter Allegra Garcia, and brilliant tech-nerd Chester P. Runk... Flash will ultimately defeat Mirror Master. But in doing so, he'll also unleash an even more powerful and devastating threat on Central City: one that threatens to tear his team -- and his marriage -- apart. In the season opener, "All's Wells That Ends Wells," when an experiment to save Barry's speed backfires, Nash Wells searches for a way to save The Flash and comes up with a dangerous plan. Meanwhile, Iris makes a startling realization inside the Mirrorverse and Cecile faces off with Rosa Dillon (guest star Ashley Rickards). Alexandra La Roche directed the episode.

THE FLASH returned for its eighth season on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at 8pm ET/PT on The CW, starting with a five-episode Armageddon event. After stopping the Godspeed War last season, it's six months later and Barry and Iris West-Allen are now at the top of their game -- both in their careers as superhero and reporter and as a devoted couple. But when the powerful alien Despero unleashes near annihilation on Central City, The Flash and his team -- Caitlin Snow/Frost, Meta-Empath Cecile Horton, the light-powered meta Allegra Garcia, brilliant tech-nerd Chester P. Runk, and retired detective Joe West -- must once again defy impossible odds to save the day. But their victory is short-lived as two new threats rise from the ashes of "Armageddon," one of which will unleash unforeseen horrors into the lives of Barry and his teammates...and change Team Flash forever. After a three-month break following the conclusion of the five-episode Armageddon event, THE FLASH returned with new episodes on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at 8pm ET/PT on The CW. The spring premiere, "Impulsive Excessive Disorder," picks up where Season 7 left off, after returning home from a visit for their parent's vow renewal, Bart (guest star Jordan Fisher) and Nora (guest star Jessica Parker Kennedy) quickly realize that things are not exactly as they left them. The duo race to repair any fissures in the timeline and restore everything back to the way it is supposed to be.

The ninth and final season of THE FLASH premiered on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at 8pm ET/PT no The CW. fter defeating the Reverse Flash once and for all, Season 9 picks up one week later following their epic battle, and Barry Allen and Iris West-Allen are reconnecting and growing closer than ever before. But when a deadly group of Rogues descend on Central City led by a powerful new threat, The Flash and his team -- Caitlin Snow, Meta-Empath Cecile Horton, the light-powered meta Allegra Garcia, brilliant tech-nerd Chester P. Runk, and reformed cryogenics thief Mark Blaine -- must once again defy impossible odds to save the day. But as The Rogues are defeated, a deadly new adversary rises to challenge Barry Allen's heroic legacy. And in their greatest battle yet, Barry and Team Flash will be pushed to their limits, in order to save Central City one last time. In the season opener, "Wednesday Ever After," Barry creates a map book to guide him and Iris throughout their future in order to keep her safe, but the results are not what he expected, and instead, they relive the same day over and over again. Joe has a heart-to-heart with Cecile. A new big bad is introduced to Team Flash and friends and foes, old and new, begin to descend upon Central City.
