Plot Synopsis

Inspired by "First Love" (1999) and "Hatsukoi" (2018) -- two seminal songs by Hikaru Utada -- FIRST LOVE is a cross-generational love story. Two teenagers, Yae and Harumichi, fall in love for the first time in the late '90s; two decades later, one is about to get engaged, while the other is divorced with a teenage son who's falling in love for the first time. The story opens in present day with Yae driving through the streets of Sapporo as a taxi driver. Her younger self dreams of becoming a flight attendant back in her rural hometown, where a teenage Yae shyly plans a date with Harumichi. But back in the present, she receives a sweet gift from a special someone. The entire nine-episode series dropped on Thursday, November 24, 2022 on Netflix.
