Plot Synopsis
Executive produced by Tommy Mottola and directed by Matthew O'Neill & Thalia Sodi, 15: A QUINCEANERA STORY is a series of four, half-hour documentaries that follow five Latina girls, who are all observing the traditional rite of passage of the quinceanera, a celebration of their 15th birthdays. The documentaries chronicle the girls and their families as they navigate the complexities of coming of age in the United States. HBO premiered the four specials at 7pm ET/PT on consecutive evenings from Tuesday, December 19 through Friday, December 22, 2017:
Zoey (December 19): With the help of her trans-madrinas (godmothers), 15-year-old Zoey prepares for her quinceanera -- a celebration the older women were never able to have themselves.
Rosi (December 20): Rosi, an American growing up in Florida with a mother from Guatemala and a father from Cuba, chooses to celebrate her quinceanera in Havana after her grandfather is denied a visa.
Ashley (December 21): Ashley, an amateur boxer living in East Los Angeles, is nervous about her first fight as her quinceanera approaches.
Jackie & Nina (December 22): Jackie and Nina, best friends from San Antonio, mix their quinceanera with their love of escaramuza, a traditional Mexican horse-dancing display.
