Plot Synopsis
FANTOMWORKS is a one-hour reality series that follows restoration expert Dan Short and his team at the Virginia-based FantomWorks, as they transform vehicles while dealing with irate car owners, personality clashes, cost over-runs, parts problems and walkouts. Dan carefully selects his clients, because he won't accept business unless car owners prove to him that they truly care about their vehicles. Leaning on of years automotive restoration experience -- in addition to the qualities of discipline and precision Dan acquired in the military -- the FantomWorks team runs a busy production pipeline in order to meticulously refurbish some of America's favorite rides. In each 60-minute episode, the FantomWorks team restores two vehicles, including: a 1963 Chevrolet Corvette, to which a customer wants to add the first convertible split window for his wedding in less than two months; a 1931 Model A Hot Rod converted into a hot rod, which the customer dismantled and is his only connection to his dead father; a 1965 Mustang, for which customer Charlie bought his own parts but whose dreams are beyond his budget; a 1951 Studebaker Truck, which challenges Dan and his team to dream up a design that has never been seen before; a 1964 Impala, which looks like it is half a step from the junkyard and whose Afghanistan-bound owner has entrusted the transformation to his mother-in-law; and a 1976 Triumph TR6, whose owner wants original paint and features even though Dave doesn't believe that it is possible. FANTOMWORKS returned for its second season on Sunday, July 27, 2014 from 9-11pm ET/PT, as Velocity showed back-to-back new episodes to jumpstart the new season. In the Season 2 premiere, "Tip of the Iceberg," a 1983 Avanti arrives with $58,000 worth of mismatched parts, an engine that doesn't fit and a cascade of problems. Then, a 3100 Chevy Pick-up rolls in with rope holding the doors shut, but the team soon learns that this is the tip of a very ugly iceberg. In the night's second episode, "Fast & Dangerous," a 1977 Corvette Stingray arrives with too many problems to count, and although the restoration makes no sense, Dan takes it on for an emotional owner. Then, a 1965 Cobra is brought in for a simple wiring job, but then the owner decides to add machine guns. Season 3 of FANTOMWORKS premiered on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT on Velocity, shortly after an all-day marathon (10am-7pm) of encore episodes. In the season opener, "Race to the Finish," Steve wants Dan to prep his 1954 Oldsmobile Rocket 88 to compete in the Mille Miglia, a thousand mile vintage car race on twisting Italian roads. Steve's hopes are high, but he gives Dan a triple whammy -- a low budget, a quick turnaround and the fact that all systems must remain period correct. Dan has to contend with bad brakes, a dying engine, and loose steering, before he can even start trying to make the Olds competitive in an endurance contest it was never designed for. During the rest of Season 3, Dan works on a number of American automotive classics including: 1960 Lincoln Continental; 1939 Hudson; 1964 Plymouth Barracuda; 1953 Studebaker Commander; 1989 Jeep Wrangler; 1956 Thunderbird; 1964 Fastback Mustang and more. Season 4 of FANTOMWORKS premiered Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at 10pm ET/PT on Velocity. In the season opener, "Throwing Heat," Kansas City Royals pitcher Tim Collins wants a super-fast 1968 Mustang, but Dan has to first undo a combination of bad repairs. Bob is a Vietnam veteran who needs a Fantomworks reality check to get his beloved 1950 Willy's Jeep back on the road. FANTOMWORKS returned for a new season on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 9pm ET/PT on Velocity. In the season opener, "Sole Survivor," Ben wants a partial restoration for his father's 1962 Maserati, but the car is so rare that Dan sees only one solution. Raymond and Diane are VW fanatics who only want one thing for their wornout 1966 bug -- perfection. On Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 9pm ET/PT, FANTOMWORKS returned with new episodes on Velocity. In "Another Bricklin the Wall," Walter loves the fast and futuristic look of his 1975 Bricklin. Unfortunately, the car drives like something from the dark ages. Dan restores a 1963 Split Window Corvette for a pair of owners who know him well -- his Uncle Carl and Aunt Claire.

Velocity premiered the season finale of FANTOMWORKS on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at 9pm ET/PT. In the season ender, "Metro Mayhem (Part 2)," FantomWorks epic four-year-long wrestling match with the 1961 International Harvester Metro concludes with an incredible, one-of-a-kind van. Ray wants his '69 ZL1 to match the number 68 rally car, but he needs Dan's rare Winters stamped 427 COPO motor.
