Plot Synopsis

Leigh Anne Tuohy, the real-life inspiration behind THE BLIND SIDE, helps families as they go through the practical, physical and emotional process of adding a new family member, while also making over part of their homes to accommodate their new addition. In addition to Tuohy, who provides the creative vision and oversees the home improvement projects, FAMILY ADDITION also features these people, who each support families in unique ways, as they transition into their new family situation: Collins Tuohy, Leigh Anne's daughter, who is a noted inspirational speaker and co-owner of Whimsy Cookie Company, a boutique cookie company; and Special Educator "Miss Sue" Mitchell, who was portrayed by Kathy Bates in the movie THE BLIND SIDE. Each 60-minute episode highlights a single family, including: Tiffany Soto, who took temporary custody of her nephew, Elijah, more than three years ago, and is now proceeding to adopt him after she recently marryied her high-school sweetheart; Jill and Graham Sander, who want to adopt their nephew, Johnny; Shirdawn and Jeffrey Jackson, who have opened their hearts and home to seven young siblings in foster care; Tamika Dobbins, who needs support, while Tuohy and her team also address flaws in the foster care system; and many other families adopting children or providing foster care.
