Plot Synopsis
After numerous failed attempts to become popular at Hester High School in Austin, Texas, BFFs Karma and Amy are mistakenly outed as lesbians, which launches them to instant celebrity status. Seduced by their newfound fame, the girls decide to keep up their romantic ruse, as they work on their now-complicated relationship. Karma is an optimistic high-school sophomore, who fears she and Amy are falling off the school's social ladder, until they get invited to the hottest party of the year. Amy, a cynical tomboy and Karma's loyal best friend, agrees to continue to fake a lesbian relationship with Karma, but realizes her feelings may be deeper than she ever thought. Amy's soon-to-be-stepsister, Lauren, feels her assets are under-appreciated and believes she belongs at the top of the social ladder. At school, Shane is the most popular kid and his gaydar rings loud and clear when he meets Amy and Karma, so he takes the new couple under his wing and tries to make them homecoming queens. But Shane's best friend, Liam, is a commitment-phobe who finds the perfect girl to pursue when he meets Karma, a super cute and seemingly unavailable lesbian. FAKING IT returned for its 10-episode second season on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at 10:30pm ET/PT on MTV. In the season opener, "The Morning Aftermath," best friends Amy and Karma struggle with figuring out their relationship after Amy revealed her true feelings for Karma, and Amy feels guilty about her tryst with Liam. Meanwhile, Lauren and Shane devise a plan to protect Lauren's secret. In the Season 2 mid-season finale, Amy and Karma have an epic fight, Liam gets promising news about his future. Meanwhile, Lauren discovers her relationship isn't what it seems, and Shane crosses a line to get what he wants. On Monday, August 31, 2015 at 9:30pm ET/PT, MTV debuted the Season 2 Fall premiere of FAKING IT. In the mid-season premiere, "Stripped," a new principal cracks down on Hester; Shane leads a revolt; Amy suspects that Karma is hiding something. Season 3 of FAKING IT premiered on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at 10:30pm ET/PT on MTV. Season 3 centers around friendship and how complicated and fragile it can be; so easy to break and hard to put back together. After a summer apart, Karma and Amy struggle to get things back on track. Shane is caught between friends, while Liam wonders whether he is even capable of having friends. Meanwhile Lauren struggles with a decision, if friends are worth the effort.
