Plot Synopsis

Kate Reed was a top litigator who grew frustrated with the endless legal bureaucracy and injustice so she became the ultimate anti-lawyer -- a mediator. Using her knowledge of the law, along with intuition and a whatever-it-takes approach to resolve conflict, Kate finds the middle ground for a wide variety of adversaries -- from Fortune 500 corporations to bitter divorcees. Following the unexpected death of her father, she finds herself back in bed with her lawyer/ex-husband, Justin, and at odds with her boss/stepmother, Lauren. Helping her keep all of this chaos at bay is Leonardo, her trusted, geek-chic assistant. When the firm is on the verge of collapse, Lauren hires Ben Grogan, an up-and-coming trial attorney whose ambulance-chasing ways represent everything Kate hates about lawyers. Plus, Ben's presence adds fuel to Kate's fiery relationship with Lauren, and the sexual tension between Ben and Kate puts pressure on her relationship with Justin.
