Plot Synopsis

Based on Janice Y. K. Lee's 2016 novel, "The Expatriates," EXPATS is a six-episode drama series that's set against the vibrant and tumultuous tapestry of 2014 Hong Kong, where the lives of three American women -- Margaret, Hilary, and Mercy -- intersect after a sudden family tragedy. When a single encounter sets off a chain of life-altering events, everyone is left to navigate the intricate balance between blame and accountability. The series interrogates privilege and explores what happens when the line between victimhood and culpability becomes blurred. EXPATS debuted with two episodes on Friday, January 26, 2024 on Prime Video, which released a new installment each Friday through February 23.

On Friday, February 23, 2023, Prime Video released "Home," the one-hour finale of EXPATS. Margaret and her family prepare to return to the United States. Hilary travels home to Los Angeles to visit her ailing father. Mercy's mother visits her in Hong Kong for the first time.
