Plot Synopsis

Each year in association with The Gospel Music Heritage Month Foundation, EVOLUTION OF GOSPEL commemorates the month of September as Gospel Music Heritage Month by honoring individuals who have impacted gospel music with live musical performances. The 6th Annual EVOLUTION OF GOSPEL, hosted by Jonathan Slocumb, was taped on September 6, 2014 at The John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. and was broadcast by UP on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 9:00pm ET. The 2014 honorees included Gospel music legends Yolanda Adams and Kirk Franklin, and former Sen. Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas, who along with Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX), was instrumental in the passage of the resolution that established Gospel Music Heritage Month. Performers included Tamela Mann, Anthony Brown and Group Therapy, Y'Anna Crawley, Kathy Taylor, Edwin Hawkins, Dottie Peoples, Stephen Hurd and Tasha Page Lockhart, among others.
