Plot Synopsis

In this one-hour, syndicated, daytime program (check local listings for time and channel), practicing medical professionals discuss hot-button medical topics, presenting real health information. For the first three seasons the hosts were: Dr. Travis Stork, an emergency room doc; Dr. Lisa Masterson, an obstetrician; Dr. Jim Sears, a pediatrician; and Dr. Andrew Ordon, a plastic surgeon. At the beginning of the fourth season in 2011, THE DOCTORS introduced two more co-hosts -- Dr. Wendy Walsh, a psychologist and relationship expert; and Jillian Michaels, a health and wellness expert best known from THE BIGGEST LOSER -- who were no longer regular contributors halfway through the 2011-2012 season. Whenever the program covers a topic outside of the hosts' expertise, they bring in an expert, such as the chief of neurosurgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center discussing Rasputin encephalitis. Typical hints and facts include: Women should take calcium to decrease menstrual cramps; Eat small, frequent meals instead of a few larger ones; 44% of Americans have trouble sleeping. These docs occasionally even make house calls, venturing outside the studio to provide direct help to patients. Season 6 debuted on Monday, September 9, 2013, as the docs shared surprising health news from around the world, including the story of a husband and wife who were simultaneously struck by lightning. Joining the team of co-hosts for Season 6 were three new medical experts: urologist Dr. Jennifer Berman; sexologist Dr. Rachael Ross; and rehabilitation specialist Dr. Ian K. Smith. Dr. Jennifer Ashton joined one month later. THE DOCTORS returned for its seventh season on Monday, September 8, 2014 with six physicians who are among the best in their respective fields, including ER physician Dr. Travis Stork, plastic surgeon and reconstructive surgery expert Dr. Andrew Ordon and pediatrician Dr. James Sears. Recurring co-hosts include OB/GYN Dr. Jennifer Ashton, urologist Dr. Jennifer Berman, and family practitioner and sexologist, Dr. Rachael Ross. . The season premiere featured "Lucky Season 7 Giveaways of a Lifetime," as seven inspiring viewers were surprised and rewarded for their altruism or for surviving medical hardships. Season 8 of THE DOCTORS premiered on Monday, September 14, 2015 (check local listings for time and channel), with a season opener featuring Amanda Peterson's family, who revealed the actress' shocking secret, discussed her struggles with mental illness and drugs, and chronicled what led to her death.
