Plot Synopsis

Adapted from Deborah Harkness's "All Souls" trilogy, A DISCOVERY OF WITCHES is a modern-day love story set against the backdrop of Oxford academic life. Historian Diana Bishop, a reluctant witch denying her heritage, accidentally discovers a long-lost bewitched manuscript in Oxford's Bodleian Library, and is immediately thrown into the heart of a dangerous underworld. On her journey, she finds herself tossed into the path of enigmatic vampire and geneticist, Matthew Clairmont, who hides a dark family secret. A DISCOVERY OF WITCHES had its official U.S. premiere on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, as SundanceNow released the entire eight-episode first season. For a limited time only, U.S. residents could stream the first two episodes from Christmas 2018 through December 31, 2018 as a sneak peek of the series.

The 10-episode second season of A DISCOVERY OF WITCHES had its U.S. premiere on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT on Sundance Now, Shudder and AMC+. In Season 2, Matthew and Diana are hiding in time in the fascinating and treacherous world of Elizabethan London -- here they must find a powerful witch teacher to help Diana control her magic and search for the elusive Book of Life. In Elizabethan London, Diana and Matthew's romance faces a barrage of new threats. Diana's unleashed magic takes a dark and frightening turn, while Matthew struggles to re-inhabit the dangerous life he led over four centuries ago. They must overcome deep personal fears and jealousies, bearing their darkest secrets to one another if they are to stay alive, stay together and find a way back to present day. Back in the present day, Diana's beloved aunts, Sarah and Em, must take shelter with notorious witch-hunter Ysabeau de Clermontat her ancestral home, Sept-Tours. Meanwhile, in Oxford, Marcus and Miriam take on Matthew's mantle to protect daemons Nathaniel and Sophie, whose pregnancy is advancing. Gerbert, Knox, Satu and Domenico are determined to hunt down every clue they can to Diana's and Matthew's disappearance, and the secrets their allies are keeping from them.

On Saturday, January 8, 2022, SundanceNow released the Season 3 debut of A DISCOVERY OF WITCHES. In the seven-episode third and final season, Matthew and Diana return from their trip to 1590 Elizabethan London to find tragedy at Sept-Tours. They must find the missing pages from the Book of Life and the Book itself before it's too late. Their enemies are gearing up against them, and a monster from Matthew's past who has been lying in wait will return for revenge.
