Plot Synopsis
Created by Alena Smith, DICKINSON is a half-hour dark comedy series that explores the constraints of society, gender, and family from the perspective of rebellious young poet Emily Dickinson. In this coming-of-age story, Emily is determined to become the world's greatest poet. The first three episodes of DICKINSON premiered on Friday, November 1, 2019 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, as Apple TV+ released the series on the same day the streaming network launched. Two weeks before its debut, DICKINSON had already been renewed for a second season.
On Friday, January 8, 2021 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, Apple TV+ released the first three installments of DICKINSON's 10-episode second season, followed by new episodes weekly, every Friday through February 26. Three months earlier -- on Thursday, October 8, 2020 -- Apple TV+ renewed DICKINSON for a third season. In Season 2, Emily Dickinson is pulled out of her private literary life and thrust into the public eye, while struggling with the sense that the pursuit of fame might be a dangerous game for her to play. Guest stars for Season 2 include Nick Kroll as Edgar Allan Poe, Timothy Simons as Frederick Law Olmsted, Ayo Edebiri as Hattie, and Will Pullen as Nobody.
The 10-episode third and final season of DICKINSON premiered on Friday, November 5, 2021, as Apple TV+ released the first three episodes of Season 3. A new episode debuts each Friday through December 24. Emily Dickinson's most productive time as an artist falls amid the raging American Civil War and an equally fierce battle that divides her own family. As Emily tries to heal the divides around her, she wonders if art can help keep hope alive, and whether the future can be better than the past.

On Friday, December 24, 2021, Apple TV+ released "This was a Poet -," the series finale of DICKINSON. Emily asks Betty to help her design a new dress. The Dickinson family is surprised by an unexpected guest.
