Plot Synopsis

Each December from 2016 through 2018, CBS has presented "The Dick Van Dyke Show -- Now in Living Color!," a one-hour special that features two newly colorized episodes of THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW. The main titles and end credits of the two episodes are seamlessly combined into one set -- at the beginning and end of the hour -- with no interruption between the episodes. In the first year -- on Sunday December 11, 2016 from 8-9pm ET/PT -- series creator and co-star Carl Reiner personally supervised the colorization of the episodes. The special featured the groundbreaking episode "That's My Boy??" and "Coast to Coast Big Mouth," Both episodes were written by Bill Persky & Sam Denoff.

In the third year, CBS debuted newly colorized back-to-back classic episodes of on Friday, December 14, 2018 from 9-10pm ET/PT. Series creator and co-star Carl Reiner personally selected the two episodes to showcase his favorite episodes featuring Dick Van Dyke: "Where Did I Come From" and "Never Bathe on Saturday." "After seeing only two seconds of 92-year-old Dick dancing in the new MARY POPPINS movie, I picked shows that featured Dick's physical comedy," said Reiner. "He was, is and will always be the greatest entertainer I have ever seen." The special features the Season 1 episode "Where Did I Come From," written by Carl Reiner, and the Season 4 episode "Never Bathe on Saturday," also written by Reiner.

On Friday, July 3, 2020 from 8-9pm ET/PT, CBS honors the memory of legendary actor, producer, director, writer, comedian and Emmy Award winner Carl Reiner with THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW -- NOW IN LIVING COLOR! A SPECIAL TRIBUTE TO CARL REINER, featuring two colorized back-to-back classic episodes of the beloved 1960s series. As series creator and co-star, Carl Reiner personally supervised the original colorization of the episodes. The special features "Coast to Coast Big Mouth," which ranked #8 on TV Guide's list of the "100 Greatest TV Episodes of All-Time," and "October Eve," which Mr. Reiner considered to be one of the series' funniest episodes. Both were written by Bill Persky and Sam Denoff.

Another NOW IN LIVING COLOR! version of THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW debuted on Friday, May 21, 2021 from 8-9pm ET/PT on CHS. This one-hour special features two freshly colorized classic episodes of the beloved 1960s series:

"Baby Fat" : Alan Brady calls on Rob to ghostwrite some new material for a troubled Broadway play he's starring in. The episode is based on an incident that actually happened to co-writer Garry Marshall: he was tapped to fix a play for comedian Jack Carter, who insisted that the ghostwriter make himself scarce whenever the official playwright showed up. The episode first aired on April 21, 1965, during Season 4. Written by Garry Marshall and Jerry Belson.

"The Bottom of Mel Cooley's Heart": Airing late in the show's final season, this episode served as a kind of "curtain call" for longtime supporting actor Richard Deacon, who finally got to take center stage when Mel Cooley stands up to brother-in-law/employer Alan Brady (played by DICK VAN DYKE SHOW creator Carl Reiner). The episode first aired on Feb. 9, 1966 and was written by John Whedon.

The main titles and end credits of the two episodes are seamlessly combined into one set -- at the beginning and end of the hour -- with no interruption between each.
