Plot Synopsis

Based on characters created for DC by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner, DEAD BOY DETECTIVES is an eight-episode supernatural series that follows two teenage sleuths -- Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland -- who work alongside a clairvoyant to solve mysteries for their supernatural clientele...until a powerful witch complicates their plans. Edwin and Charles are "the brains" and "the brawn" behind the Dead Boy Detectives agency. Teenagers born decades apart who find each other only in death, the duo are best friends and ghosts...who solve mysteries. They will do anything to stick together -- including escaping evil witches, Hell, and Death herself. With the help of a clairvoyant named Crystal and her friend Niko, they are able to crack some of the mortal realm's most mystifying paranormal cases. About the characters:

Edwin Payne: Edwin is "the brains" of the Dead Boy Detectives after surviving 70 years in Hell, taking fastidious notes, and keeping an extensive library.

Charles Rowland: Charles is "the brawn" of the operation and chose to stay behind with Edwin when he died rather than following Death into the afterlife in 1989.

Crystal Palace: Crystal is a psychic medium whom Edwin and Charles save from demonic possession.

Niko Sasaki: Niko is able to help the Dead Boy Detectives using investigative skills she learned from watching SCOOBY-DOO and anime.

As part of The Sandman Universe, DEAD BOY DETECTIVES was developed for television by Steve Yockey, who serves as co-showrunner alongside Beth Schwartz and is brought to screens by Greg Berlanti. All eight episodes of DEAD BOY DETECTIVES dropped on Thursday, April 25, 2024 on Netflix.
