Plot Synopsis

Each week, four cupcake culinary contestants face off in three elimination challenges. The decorator with the last cupcake standing earns $10,000 and gets to showcase their winning treats at a special engagement, including: a special Ace of Cakes anniversary celebration; a Sea World birthday bash; a golf charity event for George and Ann Lopez; a star-studded magazine party; a book release party for 'Weird Al' Yankovic; and much more. In the first round, the four competitors each create a single cupcake, using a combination of flavors selected by the show. After the panel of three judges eliminates one contestant, the remaining three competitors each create three new cupcakes that highlight artistic presentation as well as taste and texture. The judging panel eliminates one more contestant, and the remaining two competitors -- with the help of a small staff of bakers and a carpenter -- must each bake 1000 cupcakes and create a display case appropriate for that show's theme/event. The judges then select which baker gets to attend the special event and present their cupcakes to guests. Each week, the judging panel welcomes a guest who is affiliated with the event being featured in that episode. In Season 8, which premiered on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at 8pm ET/PT on Food Network, guest judges included: 'Weird Al' Yankovic; Lance Bass; Fred Nelson, president of THE PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARDS; Tiffani Thiessen; SANDWICH KING's host Jeff Mauro; and many more. After airing eight seasons on Sundays, CUPCAKE WARS moved to Saturdays at 8pm ET/PT beginning with the Season 9 premiere on September 7, 2013. The ninth season opener featured guest judge Jessica Alba, who requested the cupcake bakers create all-natural organic cupcakes for a party launching the new headquarters for her brand, The Honest Company.

After showing no new episodes in 2014 nor 2015, Food Network premiered CUPCAKE WARS: CELEBRITY and two new CUPCAKE WARS specials in 2016, with Florian Bellanger being joined by new host Jonathan Bennett and new judge Waylynn Lucas. On Monday, May 9, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT, Food Network premiered the "Kids vs. Adults: DC Comics Superhero Girls" special. It's a cupcake showdown packed with a massive shocking twist as two unsuspecting adult bakers discover that they've been pitted against two child cupcake prodigies as they compete have their cupcakes featured at a party celebrating the DC Super Hero Girls. These junior bakers might be too young to drive, but they've got the baking skills to take down any adult, and guest judges Ashley Eckstein and Shea Fontana from DC Super Hero Girls will help choose the last baker standing and award the $10,000 prize.
