Plot Synopsis
CRIMINAL MINDS: BEYOND BORDERS focuses on a division of the FBI that helps American citizens who find themselves in trouble abroad. CBS first aired this program as an episode of CRIMINAL MINDS on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT. In this backdoor pilot episode, "Beyond Border," a family of four is abducted while on vacation in Barbados, and the BAU is called to assist Unit Chief Jack Garrett and his International Unit -- Special Ops Agent Matthew Simmons; tech guru Russ 'Monty' Montgomery; and international law expert Lily Lambert -- on their investigation. Garrett and his unit, the FBI's top division for handling cases involving Americans abroad, work jointly with CRIMINAL MINDS' Aaron 'Hotch' Hotchner and his team when they discover that this case matches one the BAU investigated last year in Florida. Anna Gunn appeared in this episode, but she did not be continue with the series. When the series officially debuted on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 10pn on CBS, Garrett's team also included: Clara Seger, a smart, well-traveled and multi-lingual cultural anthropologist; and Mae Jarvis, the team's fearless and fun medical examiner. Season 2 of CRIMINAL MINDS: BEYOND BORDERS premiered on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 10pm ET/PT on CBS, with Kirsten Vangsness guest starring as Penelope Garcia. Unit Chief Jack Garrett and his international response team are called to Tanzania when a 23-member church group disappears on the second season premiere.

On Wednesday, May 17, 2017 from 9-11pm ET/PT, CBS premiered the series finale of CRIMINAL MINDS: BEYOND BORDERS, showing back-to-back new episodes. In the night's first new episode, "Abominable," the International Response Team searches for the killer of a woman on a yoga retreat in Nepal, and Monty goes on his first international mission with the team. Then, in the series finale, "The Ripper of Riga," the International Response Team travels to Russia when an American ballerina is kidnapped, and Jack tangles with an ex-KBG agent who escaped from prison.
