Plot Synopsis
Winger had his law degree revoked -- don't ask him though because he won't admit it -- and he went back to school at Greendale Community College, where they focus on "The Straight A's: Accessibility; Affordability; Air conditioning; Awesome new friends; A lot of classes." Shortly after Jeff arrived, he and his fellow classmates formed a study group that included: Britta Perry, a twentysomething high-school dropout who was broke after being in the Peace Corps and is now in her thirties; Shirley Bennet, a sassy middle-aged divorcee who was there to market her baked goods and is now blossoming into a headstrong entrepreneur; Abed Nadir, a pop-culture junkie who takes biz classes so he can run his father's falafel restaurant; Annie Edison, a high-strung perfectionist who sees herself as more Ivy League than Greendale; Troy Barnes, a former high-school football star and prom king, who is still trying to find his way; Ben Chang, a former Spanish teacher who is either insane or an evil genius -- or both; and Pierce Hawthorne, a world traveler and, yes, the Hawthorne from the award-winning Hawthorne Wipes, who left the group when he graduated after 13 years of school. After COMMUNITY's third season, creator Dan Harmon was forced out as showrunner, with the series put in the hands of David Guarascio and Moses Port for the show's fourth season, but Harmon returned as executive producer/showrunner for Season 5. COMMUNITY returned for its fifth season on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 8pm ET/PT with NBC showing back-to-back new episodes. After Jeff graduated last season, he now returns to Greendale to gather evidence for a lawsuit being pursued by former law partner Alan Connor, and then settles into his new job as a staff member at Greendale. Meanwhile, the study group gets back together, deciding to take a new class, "Nicolas Cage: Good or Bad." Screen released the first two episodes of COMMUNITY's sixth season, with subsequent Season 6 episodes scheduled to debut on Tuesdays. In the season opener, "Ladders," Francesca 'Frankie' Dart is hired as CFO of Greendale after a roof collapses from 40 years of Frisbees. Tasked with fiscal responsibility, Frankie suggests cutting unnecessary classes such as "Ladders" amongst other changes, and Abed helps Frankie. Struggling to keep Shirley's Sandwiches afloat, Britta, Annie, Jeff and Abed turn it into a speakeasy after Frankie bans alcohol on campus. Then, in the season's second episode, "Lawnmower Maintenance and Postnatal Care," the Dean purchases a VR system for Greendale that could bankrupt the school, forcing Jeff to find the creator, Elroy Patashnik, to save them. After moving in with Annie and Abed, Britta finds out her parents have been paying her debts to her friends. Chang gets bitten by a cat.
