Plot Synopsis

First held in 2008, THE COLLEGE BASKETBALL INVITATIONAL (CBI) is an annual single-elimination tournament -- up until the best-of-three Championship Series -- with all games played at campus sites. Schools are selected from teams not participating in the NCAA and NIT tournaments, and 16 teams are invited based upon their performance during their conference and non-conference schedule, as well as how they are playing at the end of the regular season. After teams are seeded, matchups are set for the first and quarterfinal rounds, with the higher seeded schools hosting each game. Prior to the semifinals, the four remaining teams are re-seeded, again with higher seeded schools hosting games. For the best-of-three championship series, the higher seeded school is scheduled to host two of three games in a series that has had an away-home-home format since 2009 -- after using a home-away-home format in the CBI's inaugural season.
