Plot Synopsis
Based on Ryan McGarry's documentary of the same name, CODE BLACK is set in the busiest and most notorious ER in the nation, where the staff confronts a broken system to protect their ideals and the patients who need them the most. This one-hour drama series revolves around a group residents who are getting their first taste of ER medicine and the medical staff who mentor, teach and terrify them. Dr. Leanne Rorish, the residency director in the ER, is renowned for successfully performing high-risk procedures in Center Stage, the trauma area reserved for the most critical cases. Her new group includes: Christa, a former soccer mom whose son died of cancer, who see things that often escape her much younger fellow residents; Malaya; Angus; and the eager and cocky Mario. Leanne's confidante, Jesse Sallander, is an amiable seen-it-all senior nurse who manages the residents. Also working in the ER is Dr. Neal Hudson, an excellent doctor who believes that connecting emotionally with his patients is critical and taking risks with their health is abhorrent, so he sometimes disagrees with Leanne's cowboy approach; and Dr. Rollie Guthrie, the energetic, longest-serving attending. Season 2 of CODE BLACK premiered on Wednesday, September 28 at 10pm ET/PT on CBS. In the season opener, "Second Year," Colonel Ethan Willis (new cast member Rob Lowe) joins the team at Angels Memorial from the Department of Defense and takes Dr. Mike Leighton on a harrowing helicopter ride to save shark bite victims in Malibu. Rob Lowe joins the series as Colonel Ethan Willis, a doctor in the U.S. Military's prestigious Combat Casualty Care research program who has been pulled out of a combat hospital in Afghanistan and embedded at Angels Memorial to teach what the military has learned about combat medicine. His aggressive, rule-breaking style is greeted enthusiastically by Dr. Leanne Rorish, but not by all the other doctors. Season 3 of CODE BLACK premiered on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at 10pm ET/PT on CBS. For the show's third season, Moon Bloodgood joins the cast as Willis' new partner, paramedic Rox, and Tyler Perez recurs as first-year resident Diego. In the season opener, "Third Year," a drug bust-turned-shootout tests the bravery of the doctors of Angels Memorial as they race to save a girl caught in the crossfire. Also, Willis shifts his focus to field medicine, choosing to work primarily on an ambulance with his new partner, paramedic Rox. And Leanne begins her journey to adopt Ariel.

Angels Memorial descends into chaos when a plane crashes into the eighth floor. Also, it is up to Mario to save Noa's life when she has a car accident. In addition, Willis admits to Rox that he needs her in his life, and the doctors gather in court to support Leanne for her custody hearing.
