Plot Synopsis
Thirty years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, a down-and-out Johnny Lawrence has been a handyman with a drinking problem and an estranged son, Robby, but now he seeks redemption by reopening the infamous Cobra Kai karate dojo, reigniting his rivalry with a now successful Daniel LaRusso. Now living in the affluent hills of Encino, Daniel leads an enviable life with his beautiful family -- including wife Amanda, daughter Samantha, and son Anthony -- while running a successful string of car dealerships throughout the valley, but he's been struggling to maintain balance in his life without the guidance of his mentor, Mr. Miyagi. The series is about two men addressing past demons and present frustrations the only way they know how: through karate. On Wednesday, May 2, 2018 YouTube Red released all episodes of COBRA KAI.
The sophomore season of COBRA KAI premiered on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, as YouTube Premium released all 10 episodes of the new season. The second season brings fans back into the action with Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence after the shocking Season 1 cliffhanger featuring the return of John Kreese. When a new rivalry between opposing dojos is born in the aftermath of Cobra Kai's controversial win at the All Valley Championships, Daniel realizes his next countermove is to open his own karate training school called Miyagi-Do, in honor of his mentor Mr. Miyagi. What was once a personal feud between Daniel and Johnny escalates beyond their differences to engulf their students, who as teenagers, are already challenged to figure out who they are and who they want to be. Which path will they follow - Cobra Kai or Miyagi-Do? The season opens in the aftermath of Cobra Kai's win at the Under 18 All Valley Karate Championships, Johnny questions his dojo's philosophy and deals with a figure from his past. Daniel searches for the right way to respond to Cobra Kai's dominance. The seasons first episode, "Mercy (Part 2)," is free to all viewers, but subsequent episodes require a subscription to YouTube Premium.
