Plot Synopsis

Inspired by true events and testimonials and created by director Luis Lomenha, CHILDREN OF THE CHURCH STEPS is a four-part drama series that tells the story of the last 36 hours of four children's lives, before the fateful night that forever marked the history of Rio de Janeiro -- known as the Candelaria Massacre. The four children -- Douglas, Sete, Jesus, and Pipoca -- struggle to survive on the streets of Rio de Janeiro, all while nurturing hope for a different future. The series features a predominantly Black line-up -- both behind and in front of the camera -- along with survivors of the massacre who contributed to the show's development. All four one-hour episodes of CHILDREN OF THE CHURCH STEPS dropped on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 on Netflix.
