Plot Synopsis
Based on Arthur C. Clarke's novel of the same name, CHILDHOOD'S END follows the peaceful invasion of Earth by the mysterious Overlords, whose arrival begins decades of apparent utopia under indirect alien rule, at the cost of human identity and culture which may ultimately threaten the very survival of mankind. Karellen, an alien calling himself an Overlord, arrived on Earth and promised humanity a bold new world, one free of disease, poverty, crime and war. Is this veritable utopia to be trusted -- especially when Karellen refuses to reveal himself to the world? At the center of the story is Ricky Stormgren, a farmer from Missouri, who is hand-picked by Karellen to be the bridge between humans and the Overlords. Ricky is a reluctant leader at first, but once he sees all the good that Karellen has done in the world, he's much more trusting of his otherworldly friend. Ricky's wife, hip photographer Ellie, traded in her city girl ways to live on a farm, and the couple shared a loving, quiet existence until Karellen descended upon their home with a proposition that changed their lives forever. Whether he knows it or not, Dr. Rupert Boyce, the founder of The Boyce Center, is also playing a larger role in Karellen's vision for Earth. At his South African based research station, Boyce and his team are dedicated to furthering mankind's understanding of the world around them and the universe beyond them. One of his chief employees, Rachel, is impartial to the Overlords presence on Earth, but that's not true of someone very close to her -- and that could threaten her safety and future. And while the rest of the world questions religion after Karellen's arrival, Peretta still believes in a Higher Power. Armed with her faith, Peretta is committed to finding answers about the Overlords, no matter what it costs. This six-hour event series is scheduled to premiere on Syfy over three consecutive nights: Monday, December 14; Tuesday, December 15; and Wednesday, December 16, 2015 from 8-10pm ET/PT
