Plot Synopsis
Created and executive produced by Ava DuVernay, CHERISH THE DAY is an anthology series that each season chronicles the romance of one couple. The season-long narrative unfolds with each episode spanning a single day, while revealing significant moments in a relationship that compel them to hold true to the ones they love -- from the extraordinary to the everyday.
The first season highlights the stirring relationship of Gently James and Evan Fisher, who meet and fall in love in Los Angeles, with the full season spanning five years in eight episodes. Evan and Gently meet for the first time at a library while Gently is returning books for her boss, former actress Luma Langston, and Evan is waiting in the checkout line after dropping off his niece, Esther, to a study group. Their connection is powerful and immediate, but when they meet for their first date later, their conversation eventually takes a sharp turn. Then, in the second installment, Gently and her best friend Rika attend an art gallery, where she spots Evan, who breaks the ice. Gently invites him to join her and her friends at the bowling alley where Evan slips and injures his ankle. Gently takes him to the hospital. Later that evening, they arrive at Evan's townhouse where they get to know one another. The DuVernay led series achieved full gender parity with a production crew of over 50% women, including 18 female department heads. Directors Blitz Bazawule, Aurora Guerrero and Deborah Kampmeier join director/EP/showrunner Tanya Hamilton. CHERISH THE DAY premiered on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at 10pm ET/PT on OWN, with the second episode debuting on Wednesday, February 12 at 8pm. Subsequent episodes were scheduled to debut Wednesdays at 8pm, but OWN changed the schedule on February 14 so that additional installments premiered Tuesdays at 10pm.

In Season 2, the rekindling of a romance is told -- the love story of Ellis Moran and Sunday St. James, who fell in love in high school but find themselves reunited in beautiful New Orleans. Ellis is a former basketball player who is now a single father of two, and Sunday is a vegetarian celebrity chef on the cusp of fame. Mandeville "MV" St. James is a proud, loving, wry-humored former judge and widowed father of Sunday, and Anastasia is Ellis' soon-to-be ex-wife and the mother of their children.
