Plot Synopsis

Anne Burrell puts four candidates through the toughest executive chef interview of their lives, testing everything from their culinary mettle to business acumen through a series of elimination challenges. In the first round, the chefs are tested on basic kitchen skills and knowledge, with the least qualified chef being eliminated. Another chef puts down his apron after they are asked to perform a single executive task -- develop a theme night, create a signature dish, or reinvent a dish in the image of the restaurant. The remaining two chefs are put in charge of the restaurant for one dinner service, with the winner earning the prestigious position of new executive chef. In each 60-minute episode, Anne helps a different top restaurant from across America, including; Mucho Ultima in Manhattan Beach, CA, where she tests how well the four chefs know Mexican chiles, tasks them to reinvent the taco; James' Beach in Venice Beach, CA, where each chef must reinterpret modern comfort food for the health-conscious community; Fromagerie in Rumson, NJ, where the restaurant owner tests the chefs on ingredient utilization and then asks them to create their own theme night; Todd English Olives, in Manhattan, NY, where chefs are tested on their knowledge and use of spices and then told to dash to the farmers' market to create seasonal handmade pasta; Old Homestead Steakouse, in Manhattan, NY, where the candidates are tested on their creative butchering when they're asked to create a custom cut of meat and then create new and profitable side dishes; and Met Back Bay, in Boston, MA, where chefs are asked to create a signature burger, as well as to create as many entrees as they can in 45 minutes. The second season of CHEF WANTED, which premiered on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 10pm ET, featured these restaurants: Tuscan Kitchen, in Salem, NH; Mirabelle, a legendary restaurant on Hollywood's Sunset Strip; Sea Dog Steak & Ale in Massachusetts; Puerto Rican's late-night hot spot, Oceano; Abels on the Lake, a 10,000 square foot restaurant in Austin, Texas; Culina Modern Italian restaurant in the heart of Los Angeles; Zengo restaurant in NYC; Ola, located on the north shore of Oahu; and many more.
