Plot Synopsis
Executive produced by Dr. Phil McGraw and Steven Spielberg (Seasons 1-3), BULL is a one-hour scripted series inspired by the early career of McGraw, the founder of one of the most prolific trial consulting firms of all time. Brilliant, brash and charming, Dr. Jason Bull is the ultimate puppet master as he combines psychology, human intuition and high tech data to learn what makes jurors, attorneys, witnesses and the accused tick. Bull employs an enviable team of experts at Trial Analysis Corporation to shape successful narratives down to the very last detail. They include his quick-witted former brother-in-law, Benny Colon, a lawyer who acts as defense attorney in the company's mock trials; Marissa Morgan, a cutting-edge neurolinguistics expert from the Department of Homeland Security; former NYPD detective Danny James, the firm's tough but relatable investigator; haughty millennial hacker Cable McCrory, who is responsible for gathering cyber intelligence; and Chunk Palmer, a fashion-conscious stylist and former All-American lineman who fine tunes clients' appearances for trial. In high-stakes trials, Bull's combination of remarkable insight into human nature, three PhDs and a top-notch staff creates winning strategies that tip the scales of justice in his clients' favor.
The sophomore season of BULL premiered on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at 9pm ET/PT on CBS. In the season opener, "School for Scandal," when Bull joins the district attorney in a case against Kara Clayton (guest star Minka Kelly), who claims she killed her billionaire husband in self-defense, tensions run high when he learns that his on-again, off-again romantic interest, Diana Lindsay (guest star Jill Flint), is defending the widow. Also, Chunk makes a decision about his future.
Season 3 of BULL premiered on Monday, September 24, 2018 at 10pm ET/PT on CBS. In the season opener, "The Ground Beneath Their Feet," Bull returns to work following his heart attack with a new rich client for the firm to represent: an insurance company being sued by a dying mother for denying coverage of her liver transplant. On Monday, January 14, 2019 at 10pm ET/PT, CBS debuted "Separate Together," the mid-season premiere of BULL. Bull and his on-again, off-again romantic rival, Diana Lindsay (Jill Flint), join forces to create two separate but collaborative defense teams when Diana's niece and her husband are charged with armed robbery. As the trial gets underway, Bull's reunion with Diana is strained by his new post-heart attack regimen.
BULL returned for its fourth season on Monday, September 23, 2019 at 10pm ET/PT on CBS. In the season opener, "Labor Days," as Bull prepares for fatherhood, his work at TAC suffers without his top attorney, Benny, who quit in reaction to Bull's romantic reconnection to his ex-wife and Benny's sister, Isabella (Yara Martinez). In addition, the team faces a difficult time in court as they mount a defense for a young bartender on trial for involuntary manslaughter. On Monday, January 6, 2020 at 10pm ET/PT, CBS debuted "Look Back in Anger," the winter premiere of BULL. Bull looks to select jurors who can empathize with an individual's need for personal privacy when he helps Marissa's friend, Stephen (guest star Aaron Dean Eisenberg), sue a notable philanthropic businessman for abusing him as a child.
Season 5 of BULL debuted on Monday, November 16, 2020 at 10pm ET/PT on CBS. Because of industry-wide COVID-19 production delays, CBS expects BULL to have 16 episodes in its fifth season. In the season opener, "My Corona," Bull and the TAC team struggle to adjust to a virtual court system as they weather the New York City shutdown due to the coronavirus. After a three-week break, BULL returned with new episodes on Monday, January 4, 2021 at 10pm ET/PT on CBS. In the winter premiere, "Fallen Idols," Bull worries he can't convince a jury his religious leader client didn't kill his wife when a major secret the pastor is hiding about the marriage is revealed, damaging his credibility in court.
CBS premiered the sixth and final season of BULL on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at 10pm ET/PT. In the season opener, "Gone," Bull and the TAC team must call upon all their collective experience to locate Bull's kidnapped daughter, and the abductor warns them not to go to the police. As Bull works to build the most important psych profile of his life, he begins to suspect the captor is someone connected to his past. After a four-week break, BULL returned with new episodes on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at 10pm ET/PT on CBS. In the winter premiere, "False Positive," Bull helps a grieving mother, Vernice (guest star Heather Alicia Simms), sue the developers of a computer program that misidentified her son as a criminal, leading him to be fatally shot by the police. Also, Bull and Marissa clash when she considers a job offer from a rival company. Directed by Eric Stoltz.
