Plot Synopsis

For its first two seasons, BROTHER VS. BROTHER pits Jonathan Scott's skills as a licensed contractor against his twin brother Drew's experience as a real-estate agent, as each leads a team of home-improvement experts who are trying to avoid elimination while executing the smartest home renovation upgrades and scoring the biggest property-value increases. The winning contestant takes home $50,000 cash at the end of each six-episode season. In each 60-minute episode, teams are challenged with one home renovation project. Whether they're asked to renovate homes in 48 hours or take on a four-day challenge while losing a team member mid-project, the two teams -- with the help of their mentors -- must overcome hidden reno problems, team dysfunction, and even the flu to impress guest judges. After five episodes and multiple eliminations, the remaining players on the two teams compete in a final challenge -- renovating identical houses -- with the losing team sent home and one contestant from the winning team taking home $50,000. Season 1 guest judges included: POWER BROKER's Mike Aubrey; SELLING LA's Kennon Earl; and LOVE IT OR LIST IT's Hilary Farr and David Visentin.

Drew and Jonathan returned for a second season of BROTHER VS. BROTHER on Sunday, June 8, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT on HGTV. In the Season 2 premiere, each team was tasked with making over a ranch home, but Team Drew started off with a major setback. After both teams raced to finish their projects, the losing team received shocking news. Guest judges appearing in Season 2 included FLIP OR FLOP's Tarek & Christina El Moussa (Episode 2) and LOVE IT OR LIST IT's Hilary Farr and David Visentin (Episode 3). Plus, Drew and Jonathan's older brother, JD Scott, gave fans behind-the-scenes access at HGTV.com, sharing his special inside knowledge about his younger brothers and interviewing Jonathan, Drew and the contestants.

On Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT, HGTV premiered the four-episode third season of BROTHER VS. BROTHER, as Jonathan and Drew go head to head to finally determine who is best. From demolition to sale, the guys' each have $300,000 to buy a Las Vegas fixer upper and completely renovate every room. Along the way their friends and family stop by to see how they're doing, while the brothers compete in challenges -- with the loser facing dares such as dancing in an exotic male revue or wearing an embarrassing costume in the middle of a crowded public place. The brother who scores the highest property value increase upon selling their renovated property wins the battle and -- most importantly -- unlimited bragging rights. Season 3 guest judges include: YOUR BIG FAMILY RENOVATION's Jen and Brandon Hatmaker; BEACH FLIP's David Bromstad and Josh Temple; and LOVE IT OR LIST IT's Hilary Farr and David Visentin.

Budgets are bigger and the stakes are higher as Drew and Jonathan Scott go head-to-head in Las Vegas for HGTV's fourth season of BROTHER VS. BROTHER. Premiering Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT, the six-episode season follows the popular twins as they compete to buy, renovate and sell a Vegas home -- each with $500,000 to spend. Refereed by their older brother JD, Jonathan and Drew will battle to win weekly challenges by impressing an illustrious panel of HGTV and DIY Network expert guest judges. In the end, the Brother with the highest net profit after their home's sale will emerge victorious in the competition. Guest judges Lex and Alana LeBlanc, Anthony Carrino and John Colaneri, Egypt Sherrod, David Bromstad, Tiffany Brooks, and Vanilla Ice decide who wins each weekly match. In the season opener, "Nice, Nice Baby," Jonathan and Drew have seven days to get their living and dining rooms ready for Vanilla Ice to judge! It's a tight race between Jonathan's midcentury modern makeover of a '60s Vegas rancher and Drew's Hollywood-inspired family home. The winner takes home the crown, while the loser plays the fool in the famed Las Vegas attraction Tournament of Kings.

Jonathan and Drew Scott face-off in Galveston, Texas, for the fifth season of the real estate and renovation competition BROTHER VS. BROTHER: JONATHAN VS. DREW. Premiering Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 9pm ET/PT on HGTV, the series arms the twins with $600,000 each and six weeks of time to purchase and transform drab waterfront homes into stunning vacation retreats. With older brother JD acting as referee and a star-studded panel of HGTV and DIY Network guest judges serving as challenge reviewers, Jonathan and Drew go head-to-head in daunting home-related trials. The weekly challenge loser is forced to endure miserable outings such as riding a terrifying amusement park attraction, climbing an 81-foot obstacle ropes course or heading out to sea to catch shrimp for the winner's dinner. Each week the challenge winner enjoys all the fun Galveston offers, including exhilarating flyboarding in the bay, playing with penguins at the local aquarium and zip-lining at beautiful local attraction Moody Gardens. "I've won the past two years, fair and square," said Jonathan. "Three times is a charm and this is the competition where that is going to happen." "For me, failure is not an option," said Drew. "This year, I'm going to win or die trying." Fellow HGTV stars Eric and Lindsey Bennett (DESERT FLIPPERS), David Bromstad (MY LOTTERY DREAM HOME), Tiffany Brooks (HGTV SMART HOME), Karen E Laine and Mina Starsiak (GOOD BONES), and Egypt Sherrod (FLIPPING VIRGINS) as well as DIY Network hosts Ben Sargent (BACKYARD GOLDMINE) and Brett Waterman (RESTORED) travel to Galveston to decide which brother wins each weekly match. In the season opener, "Beachfront Battle," Jonathan and Drew have one week to renovate their Gulf Coast living spaces, including a bungalow and classic coastal, before David Bromstad and Egypt Sherrod step in to judge. The loser must ride the local amusement park's Cyclone multiple times.

Season 6 of BROTHER VS. BROTHER premiered on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at 9pm ET/PT on HGTV, with HGTV superstars Jonathan and Drew Scott returning for a new season. Set in the San Francisco suburbs, the new six-episode season is a hyper-test of the twins' reno know-how. With just six weeks to buy, transform and sell two unique homes in the Bay Area's hot real estate market, the brother who earns the highest net profit will claim victory. Each week, older brother JD will serve as the referee for the home renovation challenges, while guest stars from HGTV or DIY Network will evaluate and choose their favorite design. HGTV stars Leanne and Steve Ford (Restored by the Fords), Bristol and Aubrey Marunde (Flip or Flop Vegas), Egypt Sherrod (Flipping Virgins), and Mina Starsiak and Karen E Laine (Good Bones), as well as DIY Network favorite Scott McGillivray (Buyers Bootcamp with Scott McGillivray) will decide which brother wins each weekly match. The weekly challenge loser in the fierce flipping competition will complete unpleasant dares such as cleaning out the giraffe moat at the Oakland Zoo and stomping a barrel of sticky grapes in Napa. On the other hand, the challenge winner will live it up as he gets to visit - and name - a baby wallaroo in a private zoo tour and enjoy a gourmet meal and VIP wine tasting while overlooking a picturesque vineyard.

On Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at 9pm ET/PT, HGTV premiered the seventh season of BROTHER VS. BROTHER. Drew and Jonathan Scott will stop at nothing to outdo one another, as they engage in an all-out property and renovation battle in L.A.'s historic Hancock Park. Two mansions will serve as the battleground for the six-week competition to determine which renovated home will earn the highest net profit and which brother will emerge triumphant and victorious. Faced with multi-million-dollar price tags for each home and limited by regulations for altering historic properties, the Brothers will need to carefully restore and renovate the homes to fetch top dollar. Eldest Scott brother JD will serve as the referee for the home renovation challenges, while guest stars from HGTV will evaluate and choose their favorite design. With big screen rewards at stake and humorous pranks always a possibility, the Brothers will experience all the highs and lows that come with completing a renovation in the city of angels. The weekly challenge loser in the ferocious flipping competition must face a host of humiliations, including being the subject of an embarrassing blooper reel on Entertainment Tonight and hunting down the winner's favorite treats and souvenirs at Disneyland. The challenge winner will get such special rewards as a starring role in a superhero photo shoot, a heart-pounding stuntman experience or a dinosaur dig at the famed La Brea Tar Pits. During the season, HGTV stars Breegan Jane (EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION), Maureen McCormick (FROZEN IN TIME), Jasmine Roth (HELP! I WRECKED THE HOUSE), Orlando Soria (BUILD ME UP), and Dan Vickery (FROZEN IN TIME) will decide which Brother wins each weekly match. Proceeds from the BROTHER VS. BROTHER home sales will go to Turn Up! Fight Hunger who is working with No Kid Hungry to solve childhood hunger. This will result in up to 100,000 meals donated.

Season 8, titled BROTHER VS. BROTHER: NO RULES, debuted on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at 9pm ET/PT on HGTV. Drew and Jonathan Scott are ready to scrap the rules and reignite their sibling rivalry when they boldly put their house-flipping skills to the ultimate test. The six-episode season kicks-off with a surprising twist: zero constraints on budgets, renovations or house locations. In a clash of limitless possibilities, anything goes as the Brothers max out their renovation ingenuity and real estate savvy in hopes of adding the most value to their chosen properties - a hillside fixer upper for Drew versus a beach-adjacent home for Jonathan. Throughout the season, older brother JD referees the action, Jonathan's girlfriend Zooey Deschanel offers advice as a lifelong Angeleno, while stars from HGTV, Food Network and discovery+ arrive to evaluate the weekly design challenges. In the end, whomever adds the most home value will walk away with the coveted prize -- bragging rights and title of Best Brother. The weekly winner is rewarded with special opportunities, including operating the Mars Rover at NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab or taking a ride in an iconic vehicle from the Petersen Automotive Museum. The challenge loser faces a variety of humiliating tasks, such as cleaning up after the winner and his date enjoy an elaborate dinner or being sawed in half by the winning Brother at L.A.'s famed Magic Castle. Judges for the new season, who will decide which Brother wins each weekly match, include: David Bromstad, Alex Guarnaschelli, Breegan Jane, Trixie Mattel, Jasmine Roth, Egypt Sherrod and Mike Jackson, Veronica Valencia and Kendra Wilkinson.

On Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at 9pm ET/PT, HGTV premiered the season finale of BROTHER VS. BROTHER: NO RULES, immediately followed by a new one-hour special.

"No Rules, One Winner" (9pm; season finale): Jonathan and Drew's no rules competition is almost complete as they look to renovate all the exterior spaces to create the best curb appeal before their homes go on the market. In the end, the brother that sells for the most profit will celebrate victory!
