Plot Synopsis
Set in a fictitious desert town near the Mexico border, this half-hour animated comedy series centers on the intertwining daily lives of two neighbors -- Bud Buckwald and Ernesto Gonzalez -- and their families. Married and a father of three, Bud is a Border Patrol agent who feels threatened by the cultural changes that have transformed his neighborhood. His next-door neighbor, Ernesto, is an industrious Mexican immigrant and family man, who is proud to be making it in America after being in the country for less than 10 years. The Buckwalds include: wife Janice, both the wisest and most oblivious member of the family; older daughter Becky, a socially awkward and big-boned geek; middle child Sanford, a loser who thinks he's a player; and youngest girl Gert, a beauty pageant-obsessed five-year-old with a pet pig. Meanwhile, living the American Dream next door are the Gonzalezes, including: Maria, Ernesto's wife; their son, Ruiz; and their 21-year-old nephew, J.C., a recent college graduate. In the series opener Bud is enraged when he finds out that his daughter Becky is engaged to J.C.. Meanwhile, a staunch anti-immigration law is passed which eventually leads to J.C.'s deportation, much to Bud's delight. As the series progresses, these two families become bound by friendship, romance and conflict, allowing BORDERTOWN to take a satirical look at the cultural shifts occurring throughout America.
