Plot Synopsis
In this one-hour drama, four ordinary women, each with an extraordinary skill in code breaking, work together to decode the pattern behind a series of ghastly murders targeting women in post-WWII England. These four women honed their skills during World War II when they worked undercover at Bletchley Park, site of the United Kingdom's main decryption establishment, where Susan became a pattern-recognition expert, Millie improved her skills in mathematics, Lucy used her incredible memory and Jean became a pro at gathering information. Now, adjusted to civilian life in 1952, Susan spots a hidden pattern in a series of murders, and enlists her wartime friends to try and track down the murderer. But as Susan and the other Bletchley women close in on the killer of five girls, a shocking discovery calls their theories into question and forces them to set a dangerous trap, resulting in a chilling confrontation with the murderer and a dangerous game of cat and mouse. PBS aired the U.S. premiere of this series on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at 10pm ET/PT.

THE BLETCHLEY CIRCLE returned for its second season on PBS on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at 10pm ET/PT, with two, two-part episodes airing over four weeks. "Blood on Their Hands" opens with former Bletchley Park girl Alice Merren in prison awaiting trial for murder. Jean stands behind her innocence and tries to reunite the circle in an attempt to help one of their own. Lucy is now getting on well in a clerical job at Scotland Yard and keeping her head down, and Millie is working as a German translator. Susan is reluctant to get involved after her experience with the twisted serial killer Malcolm Crowley and the danger it posed to her family. Then, in "Uncustomed Goods," Millie branches out into what she believes to be a harmless sideline of dealing in uncustomed goods. This endeavor leads to her being kidnapped and held in a seedy hotel by some gangsters. On discovering this, Alice goes to Jean and Lucy to help. The girls start to investigate in order to save their friend and, as they do so, uncover a much darker, hidden world of crime.
