Plot Synopsis
Taking place 20 years prior to the classic novel "Treasure Island," this pirate adventure series centers on the tales of Captain Flint and his men during the Golden Age of Piracy. As the British Navy returns to redeem their land and exterminate Flint and his crew on the pirate ship Walrus, another side of him emerges. He allies himself with Eleanor Guthrie, daughter of the local kingpin, to hunt the ultimate prize and ensure their survival. Plus, to hold off the British and Spanish forces, he'll make himself ruler of Nassau through any means possible, but many opponents stand in their way: Richard Guthrie, Eleanor's ambitious and intrusive father, who is the wealthiest black marketer in the Bahamas; rival captains jealous of Flint's power; and John Silver, a young sailor recently recruited onto Flint's crew, who constantly undermines his captain's agenda. BLACK SAILS will have its official series premiere on Starz on Saturday, January 25, 2014 from 9-10:10pm ET/PT. Prior to that, DirecTV's Audience Channel presented the first episode of BLACK SAILS as a special preview from 6:30-8pm ET on Tuesday, January 21, 2014. Plus, Starz.com, iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, XBox Video, and many other online providers offered the first episode for free, beginning on January 18, 2014. Season 2 set sail on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT on Starz. The second season takes place 20 years prior to Robert Louis Stevenson's classic "Treasure Island," and picks up immediately following the events of the Season 1 finale: The Walrus crew is stranded, with an army of Spanish soldiers standing between them and the precious Urca gold. And with their crimes against their brethren no longer a secret, Flint and Silver must join forces in a desperate bid for survival. Meanwhile, Eleanor Guthrie struggles to maintain her grip on Nassau, as a new breed of pirate arrives in the form of Ned Low, a man for whom violence isn't just a tool...it's a pastime. As blood is spilled, and tensions mount, Charles Vane must decide which he values more: Eleanor's life or the respect of his men. And unbeknownst to all of them, a prize of immeasurable value has already been smuggled onto the island...one whose discovery will alter the very landscape of their world, and force everyone in Nassau toward the ultimate judgment: are they men, or are they monsters? Season 3 of BLACK SAILS premiered on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT on Starz. In the wake of the burning of Charles Town, all the New World lives in fear of Captain Flint. But when his campaign of terror crosses over into madness, and new threats emerge to challenge his supremacy, it falls to John Silver to locate the man within the monster, before Flint's war against the world consumes them all. Meanwhile, on the pirate island of Nassau, it's a new day. With Eleanor Guthrie facing judgment in London, Jack Rackham sits atop a fortune in Spanish gold, hoping to secure his legacy as a king among thieves. To do so, he'll have to compete with the return of one of history's most notorious captains, who holds a different vision for their home, as well as a complicated past with Rackham's chief ally, Captain Charles Vane. All will be tested when a new opponent arrives to claim Nassau, one the pirates could never have anticipated. It knows them. It understands them. And in the blink of an eye, it will do the one thing they never thought possible... turn them against each other. The 10-episode fourth and final season of BLACK SAILS premiered on Starz on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at 9pm ET/PT. Hundreds of British soldiers lie dead in a forest... the Royal Navy sails back to England in retreat... the West Indies are now a war zone, and the shores of New Providence Island have never been bloodier. With the help of Eleanor Guthrie, Woodes Rogers transforms Nassau into a fortress without walls, as Captain Flint amasses a fleet of unprecedented strength, hoping to strike the final blow against civilization and reshape the world forever. Meanwhile, from within the island... an insurgency builds, fueled by the legend of its exiled leader, whose name keeps grown men awake at night... the one they call "Long John Silver." But as Flint, Silver and their allies are about to learn, the closer civilization comes to defeat, the more desperately and destructively it will fight back. Oaths will be shattered, fortunes will change hands, and amidst the chaos, only one thing remains certain: it has never been more dangerous to call oneself a pirate. In the season opener, "XXIX," the invasion of Nassau meets with catastrophe; Teach and Rackham seek revenge for the death of Charles Vane; Eleanor adjusts to her new role.
