Plot Synopsis

BIG KITCHENS explores the logistics, cuisine and people behind the world's biggest, most extreme kitchens and restaurants. The series reveals the restaurants' secret workings, finding out what makes each kitchen tick -- the cooks and chefs; the technology behind the cooking; the issues involved in seating so many people; the overwhelming volume of ingredients; and the power needed to cook it all. Each half-hour episode visits a different restaurant, including: Big Lou's Pizza in San Antonio, TX, which serves burgers 15 times bigger than a Big Mac and a pizza five feet wide; Bob Chinn's Crab House, which cooks 900 king crabs and 1500 steaks every week, feeding over 12,000 guests; the Royal Nawaab in Manchester, UK, one of the biggest curry houses in Britain; a cruise ship kitchen that goes through 140 tons of food supplies per week; the Emirates Airline flight catering mega kitchen in Dubai; one of the biggest US Army bases in the world, which fights to feed 12,000 hungry soldiers a week; and many more eateries.
