Plot Synopsis

BIG BLUE LIVE airs live on three consecutive nights -- Monday, August 31 through Wednesday, September 2, 2015 from 8-9pm ET with another live feed to the West Coast at 8pm PT -- with two anchors and on-air correspondents reporting from a hub at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and from aboard NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) Office of National Marine Sanctuaries' research vessels. Scientists, filmmakers, photographers and other experts come together to film some of the world's most charismatic marine creatures -- humpback whales, sea lions, dolphins, elephant seals, sea otters, great white sharks, shearwaters, brown pelicans, blue whales and more -- gathering at this time of year in Monterey Bay to feed on the abundance of food in these waters. Plus, leading scientists, animal behaviorists and other experts provide additional insights on different aspects of marine life and ecology. The week prior to the PBS broadcast, BBC One aired its live broadcast in the UK, also streaming online and through social media for UK viewers.
