Plot Synopsis
Told through the lens of the fictionalized, first-person perspectives of the victims, BETRAYED is a one-hour series that treats the viewer like the only confidant they have left. As investigators, family, and friends peel back the layers and facts of each case, the otherworldly narrator already knows where the breadcrumb trail ends. They guide viewers through the various relationships that comprise their life, raising suspicions about who will commit the ultimate betrayal and bring about their doom. In the season opener, Susan Smith is stifled by the small-town life of Pikeville, KY, and dreams of something better, somewhere away from her jealous husband, Kenneth. Things get worse when Kenneth's best friend Cat-Eyes, a bank robber, comes with his wife to stay with them. Cat-Eyes has a thing for Susan, and his jealous wife knows it. Soon after Cat-Eyes moves in, a handsome FBI agent, Mark, approaches Susan to be an informant on Cat-Eyes bank robberies. She initially refuses because snitches don't last long in Pikeville but, when Susan finds a cache of guns in her kids' room, she decides to share what she knows to protect them. Pretty soon, Susan and Mark start a love affair - which she hopes will lead to a better life for her children out of Pikeville, but that Mark desperately tries to hide from his wife. All along, Susan has been trying to do the right thing, but her good intentions only bring hellish consequences. Other victims in the first season include: Missy Grubaugh, a devout Christian working her way through college as a waitress while on her path to becoming a teacher; Janet Walsh, a young, soon-to-be divorcee who's enjoying being single for the first time in her adult life; Dana Laskowski, a young, single mom, living in a small town in Washington state; Ray Kotomski, a retired corrections officer looking for love after a failed first marriage; Yelena Zakin, who is living out her dream as the proud wife of Andrew Pakhomov, the new Interim Chair of the Physics Department at the University of Alabama in Huntsville; Morris Blankenbaker, a big time high school sports star in Yakima, WA; Norma Rodriguez, who happily lives in the sleepy seaside town of Port Hueneme, CA; Ruie Anne Park, the town matriarch of Van Buren, AR, who rules the town and her family with a sharp tongue and a quick wit; and Jay Orbin, who is living the American dream with a gorgeous wife, a beautiful 8-year-old boy, and a multi-million-dollar jewelry business. BETRAYED is produced by Kevin Spacey and Dana Brunetti's Trigger Street Productions.
