Plot Synopsis
Kate Kane never planned to be Gotham's new vigilante. Three years after Batman mysteriously disappeared, Gotham is a city in despair. Without the Caped Crusader, the Gotham City Police Department was overrun and outgunned by criminal gangs. Enter Jacob Kane and his military-grade Crows Private Security, which now protects the city with omnipresent firepower and militia. Years before, Jacob's first wife and daughter were killed in the crossfire of Gotham crime. He sent his only surviving daughter, Kate Kane, away from Gotham for her safety. After a dishonorable discharge from military school and years of brutal survival training, Kate returns home when the Alice in Wonderland gang targets her father and his security firm, by kidnapping his best Crow officer Sophie Moore. Although remarried to wealthy socialite Catherine Hamilton-Kane, who bankrolls the Crows, Jacob is still struggling with the family he lost, while keeping Kate -- the daughter he still has -- at a distance. But Kate is a woman who's done asking for permission. In order to help her family and her city, she'll have to become the one thing her father loathes -- a dark knight vigilante. With the help of her compassionate stepsister, Mary, and the crafty Luke Fox, the son of Wayne Enterprises' tech guru Lucius Fox, Kate Kane continues the legacy of her missing cousin, Bruce Wayne, as Batwoman. Still holding a flame for her ex-girlfriend, Sophie, Kate uses everything in her power to combat the dark machinations of the psychotic Alice, who's always somewhere slipping between sane and insane. Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate soars through the shadowed streets of Gotham as Batwoman. But don't call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, she must first overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham's symbol of hope. On January 19, 2020 at 8pm ET/PT, The CW debuted "How Queer Everything Is Today!," the winter premiere of BATWOMAN. While Gotham busies itself reacting to Batwoman's awkward encounter, Alice celebrates her ultimate act of vengeance with Mouse. A devastated Mary focuses on Jacob Kane's trial, while Sophie seeks advice about her love life from someone unexpected. As they tackle the newest threat to Gotham, Luke prioritizes protecting Batwoman's secret, and Kate must decide what she is willing to do to honor Batwoman's identity...and her own.
The sophomore season of BATWOMAN premiered on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at 8pm ET/PT on The CW. When Ryan Wilder first discovers Kate Kane's Batsuit, she has no idea how drastically her life is about to change. A sassy, smart lesbian with a difficult past, Ryan sees the suit as her chance to finally be powerful and no longer a victim as she survives in the tough streets of the city. While Ryan goes rogue in the shadows, Gotham grapples with their missing hero, believing Batwoman has fled the city after a public stand-off with Commander Jacob Kane and the Crows. But Kate Kane's disappearance hits hardest at home where Jacob, Sophie, Luke, Mary and even Alice each struggle with the devastating news in their own way. Meanwhile, the False Face Society tightens its grip on Gotham distributing a perilous new drug known as Snakebite, "Bruce Wayne" finds his way home to wreak havoc, Safiyah surfaces with plans for revenge, and a new set of villains descends on the city. As chaos and uncertainly proliferate, Ryan realizes how much the symbol on the suit means to Gotham, launching her on a personal journey that takes her from fledgling substitute to confident caped crusader, from living in her van with her plant to chasing villains in the Batmobile. Ryan Wilder becomes a very different Batwoman than Kate Kane -- her own Batwoman -- but with the same understanding of what it means to be a her.
Season 3 of BATWOMAN premiered on Wednesday, October 23, 2021 at 9pm ET/PT on The CW. In the new season, Ryan Wilder has shed her parole for the Batsuit and her van for the Batcave to carry out the legacy of Batwoman and protect Gotham's underserved communities. Her journey continues as she and the Bat Team focus on finding Batman's scattered trophies, a collection of objects seized from Gotham's most infamous villains, before they land in pernicious hands. Meanwhile, Ryan personally struggles with the bombshell dropped by Alice -- that her birth mother is still alive. Alice is locked up in Arkham and holding on to hope that her father, a recently incarcerated Jacob Kane, will save her...but nothing can keep an evil woman down. Mary is graduating from medical school and finding difficulty juggling her roles as a full-fledged MD at her clinic and as a vital part of the Bat Team. At the same time, Luke is winging it as a superhero after discovering a suit made for him by his father, but he soon realizes it takes more than a suit to be super. Having said goodbye to Kate and the Crows, Sophie feels free to find a new purpose, but while making the most of her newly liberated lifestyle, she finds herself in the middle of an exciting but very unexpected love triangle. After a seven-week break, BATWOMAN returned with new episodes on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at 9pm ET/PT on The CW. In the winter premiere, "Trust Destiny," Mary and Alice continue their sisterly bonding, Ryan, Luke, and Sophie are desperate and willing to do almost anything to stop them...even entertaining a dangerous proposition by Renee Montoya that finally rid Gotham of Pamela Isley. As the team hunts for the source of Poison Mary's power -- and potential demise -- Renee is forced to revisit her heartbreaking past. Meanwhile, Marquis grows more unhinged and throws a spectacularly sinister soiree at Wayne Tower...and everyone is invited.
