Plot Synopsis

Each 30-minute episode documents the stories of two new mothers who have their babies at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Some stories are quite routine: an unexpected natural delivery caused by rapid progression; a mother who goes through labor pain free; and another mother who goes through a very painful labor unmedicated. Other stories show how frequently medical issues occur and are solved: an all-natural birth plan that falls apart; a mother with sicklecell anemia who is anxious about a risky c-section; and a first-time mom who has complications. In addition to the parents, the program features faculty and staff from: Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology; Center for Women's Health; School of Nursing's Midwifery Practice; Department of Pediatrics; and the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital.
