Plot Synopsis
ANIMAL ER is a one-hour reality series that follows the staff and patients at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists (GCVS) in Houston, Texas, one of the busiest animal hospitals in the world. From dogs and cats, to chimps and giant pythons, to rams and exotic birds, a broad range of pets are treated. GCVS is the last stop for animals whose care is beyond the capabilities of their regular veterinarians, and GCVS doctors deal with the most complex and challenging animal cases across their departments, which include Surgery & Orthopedics, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Neurology & Neurosurgery, Critical Care, Dentistry & Oral Surgery, Dermatology & Allergy, Avian & Exotics, Diagnostic Imaging, Ophthalmology, Cardiology, Sports Medicine, Rehabilitation & Fitness, Nutrition, and Emergency. The hospital's medical technology is state of the art and the care is cutting edge, as the staff constantly develops new approaches and techniques to treat their patients. In the series premiere, Nia, a 6-year-old white Bengal tiger, is in critical need of surgery. Harley, a therapy puppy for a little girl, has a broken leg that only surgery can fix. Spirit the cockatiel is fighting for breath, with a mass growing in her throat. And a 9-year-old Lab mix named Duchess undergoes surgery to remove a growth near her brain that may save her life.

Season 2 of ANIMAL ER premiered on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 10pm ET/PT on Nat Geo Wild. In the season opener, "Fire Drill," after a fire breaks out at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists, the staff must evacuate the hospital, while making sure patients and their owners are safe.
