Plot Synopsis
Each year since 1974, THE AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS has paid tribute to popular musicians and recordings from pop/rock, soul/R&B, rap/hip hop, and country music genres. In 1973, Dick Clark created this award show, not only to honor music from the previous year, but also to put audiences in touch with the latest phenomena in the American music scene.

Celebrating half a century of groundbreaking music, iconic moments, unforgettable performances, and pop-culture history, the AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS 50TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL is a two-hour program that debuted on Sunday, October 6, 2024 from 8-10pm ET/5-7pm PT on CBS and Paramount+. The event features performances by Nelly, Nile Rodgers & CHIC, Sheila E., Kane Brown, Mariah Carey, Green Day, Jennifer Hudson, Chaka Khan, Stray Kids, Gladys Knight, Brad Paisley and RAYE. Plus, Gloria Estefan, Jimmy Kimmel, Jennifer Lopez, Carrie Underwood, AJ McLean, Cedric The Entertainer, Kate Hudson, Reba McEntire, Samuel L. Jackson, and Smokey Robinson make special appearances. Plus, Lance Bass celebrates the legacy of the AMAs with a special on-air toast.
