Plot Synopsis

The inaugural game, then called the Builders Square Alamo Bowl, featured the University of Iowa of the Big Ten against the University of California of the Pac-10 on December 31, 1993. Six years later, Sylvania became the title sponsor, as Penn State beat Texas A&M in the 1999 Sylvania Alamo Bowl. Starting with the 10th anniversary of the Alamo Bowl, MasterCard presented the event for four years. The 2006 Alamo Bowl, the only game without a title or presenting sponsor, earned a 6.0 rating with 8.83 million viewers making it the #1 most-watched college football bowl game broadcast in ESPN history at the time. Since 2007, Valero has been the title sponsor, and the Valero Alamo Bowl features the #1 Pac-12 team against the #1 Big 12 team after the College Football Playoff selections.
