Plot Synopsis

In Brooklyn, New York, Jacob Fisher, an Orthodox Jewish Cantor and amateur songwriter, witnesses the senseless murder of his wife and three children. Despondent, and unable to understand his tragedy, he walks out on his Jewish mourning ritual, leaving behind his yarmulke, wallet and keys. Abandoning his identity, he boards a Greyhound bus, not caring where and when stops. Fortuitously, he lands in the small town of Brent, Alabama, where Nina, a single mother and the lead singer of a small gospel choir, and her Uncle Moe embrace him. They know nothing of his loss or his background, only that he is a broken man. Soon with the help of the church community, he slowly begins to heal. He and Nina find themselves growing closer together through their love of music, as they try to make sense of his past and their possible future together. After some time, he returns home only to realize that he needs Nina in his life.
