Plot Synopsis

Based on the book "Unbreak My Heart: A Memoir" by Toni Braxton. The authorized life story of the six-time Grammy winning R&B superstar, who has fought through a severe chronic illness, financial troubles and divorce while navigating her son's autism and family struggles. Beginning with her strict religious upbringing and singing with her sisters in church to her discovery by mega producers L.A. Reid and Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds. Despite her early accomplishments, her world crumbled when she was forced to file for bankruptcy twice and was left all alone to pick up the pieces after a contentious divorce. Always the consummate professional, she rebuilt her life but then found herself in the midst of more heartache. The mother of an autistic child, she had long feared that her son's condition might be karmic retribution for some of the life choices that left her filled with remorse. Later, when heart ailments began plaguing her at the age of forty-one and she was diagnosed with lupus, she knew she had to move beyond the self-recrimination and take charge of her own healing, both physically and spiritually, eventually serving as an inspiration to people around the world. The after-movie special at 10pm, "Beyond the Headlines: Toni Braxton," features interviews with Toni and her family, L.A. Reid, Babyface, record producer David Foster and songwriter Diane Warren, to tell the story of her childhood, meteoric rise to fame, financial and health struggles and ultimate triumph over adversity.
